Stolen Valor? Original Filter Bassist Speaks Out Against Lead Singer And Radical Left

On March 7th, the rock band Filter was set to play a concert in El Paso, Texas.

Hours before the show, the band posted a video on Facebook with the caption; “This is sound check!! We’re Playing El Paso!!! Get Here!!! Later and it will be packed!! A lot of Trump bashing! Does anyone know Beto?? Bring Beto!”

After the video was shared, the venue told the band they were no longer welcome.

Vocalist Richard Patrick voiced his opinion about the cancellation.

“This country is totally jacked up!! This is my right to artistic expression. If they are going to tell me that I am un-American for saying that about the President, I’d ask them if they have been to Iraq or Afghanistan. I have been over there and love and respect the job that our troops are doing over there – fighting to ensure our rights to say what we like. As a matter of fact – I was asked recently what FILTER stands for and THIS IS IT – our freedom of expression!” he wrote.

Richard Patrick’s claim of being to Iraq and Afghanistan is a little problematic when you know the back story, in particular, the story of Filter’s original Bass player Frank Cavanagh.

After ten years of playing with Filter and touring the world, at the height of his success, Frank Cavanagh joined the US Army to serve his country.

When Richard Patrick visited Iraq and Afghanistan, it was part of “Operation MySpace,” a USO style musical tour, and Frank Cavanagh played a major role.

While serving in the Army, Sgt. Cavanagh kept his past as a rock star a secret but at the behest of Operation MySpace, the Department of Defense contacted Sgt. Cavanagh and flew him to Kuwait to perform with his old band, Filter.

Richard Patrick has a long history of parroting far-left talking points and in 2013 while calling for gun control and labeling patriot Americans as terrorists, he wrote, “Alex Jones? He’s an extremist, terrorist nut.”

Sgt. Frank Cavanagh responded in defense of Alex Jones and as a result, Richard Patrick systematically blacklisted him.

After being a founding member and working in the band for ten years, Frank Cavanagh’s name was erased from all band profiles, including their Wikipedia page.

It has all the optics of “Stolen Valor.”

While speaking out against our Second Amendment, Richard Patrick claims the honor of our proud men and women who have served their country and attacks Frank Cavanagh, who left a successful music career to serve his country.

Here is the full, 2013, email from Frank Cavanagh to Richard Patrick:

A Letter in defense of Alex Jones.

First of all, to Jonny Radtke, Phil Buckman, Rob Patterson, Mitchel Marlow, John Spiker, Mika, Geno lenardo, Brian Leisgang, Steven Gillism Allan Bailey, Matt Walker and Robbie Stevens; I want you to know that this in no way is directed toward you or the music that you as well as myself have enabled Richard Patrick to make in his career. For with out us he would be nothing, and I regret if I have made you feel that your music or political beliefs are irrelevant. Even as I know some of you totally disagree with me, I also know that some of you are 100% behind me and I thank you for the FLOOD of support over the last couple of days, Happy Easter (Ishtar)!!

This isn’t about you, and I regret involving you.

this is about Richard Patrick, the Authoritarian Statist Thief.

I just want to start out Rich by saying I am very disappointed in what you have become, you have become a parrot, parroting whatever your sycophantic yes men put into your mind controlled brain. It is not surprising coming from someone that rarely has an original thought of his own.

I also want you to know that I made a post on Facebook denouncing your hatefully prejudicial, bigoted statements and then I spent an awesome Easter weekend with my daughters, planting new strawberry bushes and teaching them some of the finer points of Gun safety. Just got a new Gun, you see.

I was VERY surprised to find a flood of texts, calls, and emails asking why you were saying such hateful, bigoted, slanderous things about me. I haven’t read a one, you can own your hate, I will no longer allow you into my world, many of these texts and emails coming form your own family, supporting me.

“The Tea Party and the extreme right are literally turning into the new terrorists.”

Specifically, how? Are they inciting violence? Or, are you labeling a whole sub section of our society as “Terrorists”?

That, Richard Patrick, makes you a Prejudicial Bigot.

I hate bigots.

Maybe, God forbid, someone had road rage.

When I was 19 years old I was a victim of a racially motivated hate crime on the corner of Hampshire and Coventry road in Cleveland Heights, I was targeted for being white. My jaw was shattered and broken in three places. I responded by helping to organize a protest. A multi-racial, multi-cultural, multi-lifestyle protest AGAINST racism and bigotry, in all its forms.

You sir are a bigot.

I hate bigots.

You Said, “Alex Jones? He’s an extremist, terrorist nut.”

Alex Jones isn’t an extremist terrorist, but let’s look at who is.

Attorney General Eric Holder, who is guilty of running Operation Fast and Furious, allowing over 5000 AR and AK derivative “Assault Weapons” into the hands of Mexican Drug cartels. In our country we have separation of powers, in this case congress acted to demand information about the who, why, and when of Operation Fast and Furious. They called the nation’s Top Cop to testify, Mr. Eric Holder. He REFUSED a lawful demand by his bosses, the United States congress, and through them, We the People. He denied us, he denied YOU.

AG Holder stonewalled and then was held in Civil Contempt of Congress. When he persisted on covering up the illegal activities perpetuated during Operation Fast and Furious, he was found and is currently being held, in CRIMINAL CONTEMPT of Congress. Stop and let that sink in; THE TOP COP has been found to be in Criminal Violation by the TOP LAW MAKING body. That is TEXT BOOK TYRANNY, and you want to talk about taking my guns? Gimme a break. You SUPPORT that craziness, I won’t.

I have my guns because your buddy Eric there GAVE “Assault Weapons” to Criminals. I need to protect my family from the Narco Terrorists that your AG Armed. They are in the City I live in now. You want a Terrorist to Rail against? Well there he is. And by YOU supporting them, YOU Mr. Richard Patrick, and every one of the Authoritarian Statists like yourself, are a Terrorist and a traitor to the United States of America and the Constitution that makes it so.

You claim that Sandy Hook was your 9/11 which is an apt comparison but not for the reasons you have put forth. They are alike because both events have been manipulated by your Government to take rights from law abiding citizens all in the name of “safety”, when In reality it is people like you, people detached and ignorant of the real world, who live in a fantastical Utopian dream land that created the “Gun Free Kill Zones” that everyone of these mass shootings have occurred at. It is authoritarian elitist “progressives” such as yourself that set up this perfect scenario for slaughter; Victim Disarmament Zones. The Blood of Sandy Hook is on the hands of people like you.

I own multiple weapons, I have owned multiple pick up trucks, I’m down with ALL the Gods (the good ones), I swore an Oath to defend the Constitution, I spent a year in Iraq.

How DARE YOU imply that I am a Terrorist.

I have marched with the Tea Party and I have also marched with the Occupy movement and consider both of them to be good in the beginning until they were usurped by the establishment that you represent. I swore an Oath and sacrificed a Year doing the Real Deal to defend your First Amendment Right for you to be a Sophomoric, Banal, Idiot, BRAVO, job well done!! You’re not welcome.

Why aren’t you upset by the fact that 22 Veterans commit suicide everyday?

Why aren’t you upset about the fact that Mayor “Murder” Emanuel’s Chicago, our old home town, is on course to have 2 Sandy Hooks a month in gun murders?
Because you are a Parrot, and you only spew the latest trendiest propaganda from the left; brainwashed is basically what you are.

I will no longer sit idly by while you actively endeavor to subvert the Constitution that I swore an Oath to defend.

You have made some incredibly bad business decisions in your career, and the history of your band is the text book example of what NOT to do to be a success. Stealing from, degrading, demonizing and vilifying every person that you have ever worked with is a horrible business model. And it makes you a thief. But that’s just the good side.

I’m glad I don’t have to live like that, it must suck.

Why don’t you sacrifice a year for your country and then come back and talk to me about taking my guns, until then, stop being a bitch when someone with a pair and the courage enough to do it puts you in your place.

Trump vows to fight ‘all’ subpoenas against administration, calls demand for McGahn testimony ‘ridiculous’

President Trump on Wednesday vowed to fight back against congressional Democrats issuing subpoenas for administration officials, while calling their latest bid to bring in former White House Counsel Don McGahn for testimony “ridiculous.”

Departing the White House en route to a drug abuse summit in Georgia, the president was asked about the McGahn subpoena issued by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., who wants to hear from the ex-White House lawyer after he featured prominently in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia report.

TRUMP: ‘NO REASON’ TO HONOR DEMS’ ‘VERY PARTISAN’ SUBPOENAS, AS MCGAHN TESTIMONY FIGHT LOOMS

“The subpoena is ridiculous. ... I have been the most transparent president and administration in the history of our country by far,” Trump told reporters Wednesday. “We just went through the Mueller witch hunt where you had 18 angry Democrats, that hate President Trump … they hate him with a passion. How they picked this panel, I don’t know.”

He once again declared the probe found “no collusion and they also came up with no obstruction,” adding: “I thought after two years we’d be finished with it, no—now the House goes subpoenaing. They want to know every deal I’ve ever done.”

The special counsel did not find evidence of collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia. But despite Trump's comments, Mueller did not come to a conclusion on the matter of whether the president obstructed justice -- rather, the report revealed an array of controversial actions and requests made by the president that were examined as part of Mueller’s investigation’s obstruction inquiry. McGahn's interview with investigators factored prominently into this section, including a claim that McGahn disobeyed Trump's call to have him seek Mueller's removal.

But Fox News reported Tuesday that the White House will fight the McGahn subpoena as it resists a series of other congressional requests, and Trump's comments Wednesday pointed to a bigger battle ahead on multiple fronts.

“We’re fighting all of the subpoenas,” Trump said. “Look, these aren’t like, impartial people. They are Democrats trying to win in 2020. …They’re not going to win against me.”

He added that “the only way they can luck out is by constantly going after me on nonsense.”

Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein determined that the evidence found in the investigation was “not sufficient” to establish an obstruction-of-justice charge. But Mueller’s report seemingly left the decision on obstruction up to Congress—intensifying their already existing investigations into the president.

Nadler slammed the administration in response to reports that they'd fight the McGahn subpoena.

"The Committee has served a valid subpoena to Mr. McGahn. We have asked him to supply documents to the Committee by May 7 and to testify here on May 21. Our request covers the subjects described by Mr. McGahn to the Special Counsel, and described by Special Counsel Mueller to the American public in his report. As such, the moment for the White House to assert some privilege to prevent this testimony from being heard has long since passed," he said in a statement. "I suspect that President Trump and his attorneys know this to be true as a matter of law—and that this evening’s reports, if accurate, represent one more act of obstruction by an Administration desperate to prevent the public from talking about the President’s behavior. The Committee’s subpoena stands."

But Trump on Wednesday urged Democrats to refocus. “I say it’s enough. Get back to infrastructure, get back to cutting taxes, lowering drug prices. Really, that’s what we should be doing,” Trump said.

TRUMP VOWS HE’D TAKE IMPEACHMENT FIGHT TO SUPREME COURT

He added that investigators should “litigate” and “go after” the Democratic National Committee, “crooked Hillary,” and law enforcement officials who investigated his campaign.

“All of these things—that’s what should be litigated because that was a rigged system,” he said. “I’m breaking down the swamp. They’re getting caught, they’re getting fired. Who knows what’s going to happen right now but I hope it’s very strong.”

The president was referring to alleged misconduct on part of the FBI and Justice Department at the beginning of the Russia investigation. Barr announced that he is reviewing that conduct, after stating that he believes "spying did occur" on the Trump campaign during the 2016 election. DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz is also reviewing alleged abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and is expected to release his findings in the coming weeks.

Large dog in plane’s cockpit likely caused fatal crash, NTSB says

A 90-year-old Iowa pilot’s decision to let his large dog ride next to his small plane’s flight controls likely led to the crash that claimed his life two years ago, federal investigators announced this week.

The National Transportation Safety Board’s final report on the June 2017 accident at Monticello Regional Airport in Iowa concluded that Jerry Naylor’s canine companion – which weighed an estimated 70-75 pounds – interfered with his ability to land.

Investigators wrote that the probable cause for the crash was “the pilot's decision to fly with his large dog in the two-seat, light sport airplane, and the dog's likely contact with the flight controls during landing, which resulted in the pilot's loss of airplane control and a subsequent aerodynamic stall when the airplane exceeded its critical angle of attack.”

Naylor’s son, investigators say, told them that “the pilot had installed a homemade, removable, plywood device to prevent the right-seat passenger (or his dog) from inadvertently contacting the rudder pedals during flight,” despite the device not being approved for installation in the plane.

“After the accident, the witness saw the pilot's dog running out of the cornfield where the airplane had crashed,” the NTSB wrote.

His son told The Gazette newspaper after the crash that Naylor had been flying since 1945.

“He was just one of those guys that even though he was 90 years old you wouldn’t think twice about asking him to help you with something because he would be right there to hustle and go, go, go,” added Charlie Becker, the executive director at Camp Courageous, an organization that assists individuals with special needs and where Naylor had been a board member since the late 1980s.

Politico Poll: Republicans See Gender Equity, Dems Don't

More Democrats than Republicans think men are better off than women in the United States, according to a new Politico/Morning Consult poll released Friday.

The poll shows 55 percent of Democratic voters think men fare better, compared to about 20 percent of Republicans, according to the online poll taken among 1,933 registered voters earlier this month, reports Politico.

According to the poll's findings:

  • 44 percent of women said men have a better life.
  • 5 percent of women said women have a better life.
  • 52 percent of men think there is little difference between the genders.
  • 28 percent of men said they have a better life.
  • 10 percent say women are better off.

Meanwhile, most women said their most pressing issues involved treatment in the workplace:

  • 41 percent cited pay equity, job discrimination, or workplace sexual harassment.
  • 23 percent said sexual and domestic violence are most pressing.
  • 7 percent cited reproductive rights.

The poll's findings come after a record number of women, particularly Democrats, were elected to Congress, and women will likely drive the 2020 race for the Democratic nomination.

In the poll, 79 percent of Democratic women said they want a candidate who can heal divisions, and 14 percent said they want one who will fight back.

Meanwhile, 74 percent of the voters surveyed said women are better off in the United States, including 76 percent of men and 71 percent of women.

Turkish Finance Minister Says He Had Fruitful Meetings at White House

Turkish Finance Minister Berat Albayrak said on Monday he held very productive meetings in Washington with international financial institutions, following the unveiling last week of Turkey's economic turnaround plan.

A source familiar with the matter said Albayrak, who is Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's son-in-law, also met on Monday with White House adviser Jared Kushner, who is U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law. It was not immediately clear what the two discussed.

Albayrak has been in Washington since last Thursday, his first official visit to the U.S. capital since he took charge of the economy last July. He held a series of investor meetings and attended International Monetary Fund and World Bank spring meetings.

"This is an important week for cooperation between our two nations," Albayrak told American and Turkish business leaders in Washington. "Since last Thursday ... my team and I held series of meetings. We had productive ones with many international finance institutions," he said.

"Moreover, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and I discussed lots of different topics. ... This morning, I had fruitful talks in the White House with my counterparts," he added, without giving further details.

A day before departing from Turkey, Albayrak unveiled an economic reform package in which Ankara pledged to boost the capital level of banks and relieve bad debts in a sector left reeling by last year's currency crisis.

Turkey's economy experienced its worst quarterly contraction in nearly a decade after the currency crisis, which sent inflation soaring as high as 25 percent and left companies and banks saddled with foreign-currency debt.

Jittery international investors have been waiting for the government to signal an unambiguous break from the credit-fueled growth strategy under Erdogan. At a private meeting in Washington last Thursday, investors left unconvinced by Albayrak's turnaround plan.

On Monday, Albayrak said Turkey's banking system remained 'well-capitalized' and continued to offer credit. He said there would be complimentary policy actions after last week's reform program to boost growth potential.

"There's never been a better time to invest in Turkey," he said, adding the United States and Turkey should do more to boost bilateral trade. He acknowledged the two NATO allies had disagreements.

"We need to strengthen our resilience partnership despite our policy differences," he said. Washington and Ankara have been at loggerheads over a range of issues, the most recent being Turkey's planned purchase of a Russian air defense missile system.

Proceedings stalled in case against mass stabbing suspect

A lawsuit against a man accused of fatally stabbing a 3-year-old girl — and injuring eight others — during the child's birthday party at a Boise apartment complex is being put on hold due to concerns about the defendant's mental health.

Fourth District Court Judge Samuel Hoagland expressed concern on Tuesday at a hearing about moving forward with the case. He noted 31-year-old Timmy Kinner Jr.'s commitment to the prison ward would pose a major barrier to the case.

The case is running parallel to Kinner's criminal case, in which he faces 13 criminal counts, including first-degree murder.

Bifituu Kadir and Recep Seran, the parents of Ruya Kadir, the child Kinner is accused of killing, filed the civil lawsuit against Kinner in December following Ruya Kadir's death in July.

LONDON (Reuters) – The leader of Britain’s opposition Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, said on Friday he had turned down an invitation to a state dinner which will be part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Britain in June.

“Theresa May should not be rolling out the red carpet for a state visit to honor a president who rips up vital international treaties, backs climate change denial and uses racist and misogynist rhetoric,” Corbyn said in a statement.

He said maintaining the relationship with the United States did not require “the pomp and ceremony of a state visit” and he said he would welcome a meeting with Trump “to discuss all matters of interest.”

Libyan Minister of Economy Ali Abdulaziz Issawi speaks during an interview with Reuters in Tripoli

April 26, 2019

By Ulf Laessing

TRIPOLI (Reuters) – Libya’s U.N.-recognized government has budgeted up to 2 billion dinars ($1.43 billion) to cover costs of a three-week-old war for control of the capital, such as treatment for the wounded, to be funded without new borrowing, the economy minister said.

Ali Abdulaziz Issawi suggested the government hoped for business to continue more or less as usual despite the assault on Tripoli, in the country’s northwest, by forces tied to a parallel administration based in the eastern city of Benghazi.

Once Africa’s third largest producer of oil, Libya has been riven by factional conflict since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, with the country now broadly split between eastern-based forces under Khalifa Haftar and the U.N.-backed government in Tripoli, in the west, under Prime Minister Fayez al-Serraj.

Still, with Haftar’s Libyan National Army forces unable so far to pierce defenses in Tripoli’s southern suburbs, normal life and business activities continue in much of the capital and western coastal towns.

Issawi, in an interview with Reuters in his Tripoli office, also said Libya’s commercial ports and wheat imports were still functioning normally, although some roads have been blocked.

He said the Serraj government estimates it will spend up to 2 billion dinars extra on medical treatment for wounded, aid for displaced people and other “emergency” war costs.

He said this was not military spending but analysts believe that the sum will also cover expenditures such as pay for allied armed groups or food for fighters.

“We could actually spend less,” he added, in comments that gave the first insight into the economic impact of the fighting.

Issawi said the Tripoli government, which controls little territory beyond the greater capital region, would not incur new debt to fund the war costs, sticking to a plan to post a 2019 budget without a deficit.

Tripoli derives revenue largely from oil and natural gas production, interest-free loans from local banks to the central bank, and a 183 percent surcharge on foreign exchange transactions conducted at official rates.

But with centralized tax collection greatly diminished, public debt has piled up – to 68 billion dinars in the west, including unpaid state obligations such as social insurance.

Some analysts expect Serraj’s government will be forced to raise new debt if the war for control of Tripoli drags on.

With much of Libya dominated by armed factions that also act as security forces, the public wage bill for both the western and eastern administrations has soared as fighters have been made public employees in efforts to buy their loyalty.

The east has sold bonds worth 35 billion dinars outside the official financial system as the Tripoli central bank does not fund the parallel government apart from some wages.

Despite its limited reach, the Tripoli government still runs an annual budget of around 46.8 billion dinars, mainly for public salaries and fuel subsidies.

“This year we cannot finance via debt…we will not borrow (by agreement with the central bank),” Issawi said.

According to International Monetary Fund data, Libya’s central government debt-to-GDP ratio is 143 percent, making it one of the most heavily indebted in the world on that measure.

Issawi declined to say what parts of the budget would be trimmed to support the extra outlay for war costs.

However, with some 70 percent of the budget allocated to public wages, fuel subsidies and other welfare benefits, a portion devoted to infrastructure is most likely to be axed.

Widespread lawlessness has meant there have been no major infrastructural projects since 2011, when a NATO-backed uprising overthrew dictator Muammar Gaddafi, leaving schools, hospitals and roads in acute need of restoration.

FOREX SURCHARGE

Issawi said the government planned to raise as much as 30 billion dinars by the end of 2019 from hard currency deals after imposing in September a 183 percent surcharge on commercial and private transactions done on the official rate of 1.4 to the U.S. dollar. That fee has effectively devalued the official rate to 3.9, much closer to the black market equivalent.

Some 17 billion dinars have been raised since then, with hard currency allocated for import credit letters now issued without delays, Issawi said. The forex fee has helped the government forecast a budget in the black for 2019.

Despite the narrowing spread between the two rates, the black market continues to thrive. Dozens of traders remained at their favorite spot behind the central bank headquarters in Tripoli when Reuters reporters visited it last week.

But traders said it could take time for the Serraj government to register the extra forex receipts as official banking channels were taking up to six months to approve import financing, keeping the black market in play for dealers.

Issawi said authorities planned to lower the forex fee from 183 percent, without saying when. The black market rate has dropped from 6 to around 4.1 since September but it has hardly moved of late as demand for black market cash remains high.

The Tripoli government has stopped subsidizing food and bread, which used to be cheaper than drinking water in Libya. Wheat imports are now being arranged by private traders and there are surplus stocks of flour at the moment, Issawi said.

Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., threatened possible jail time for White House officials refusing to comply with subpoenas to testify before the House Oversight Committee.

Connolly, a member of the House panel, made his comments during an interview on CNN on Thursday. He said that “if a subpoena is issued and you’re told you must testify, we will back that up.”

He added: “And we will use any and all power in our command to make sure it’s backed up — whether that’s a contempt citation, whether that’s going to court and getting that citation enforced, whether it’s fines, whether it’s possible incarceration.”

“We will go to the max to enforce the constitutional role of the legislative branch of government.”

His comments came after three officials have refused to comply with congressional requests to testify, CNN noted.

Trump told The Washington Post that his staff should not testify on Capitol Hill, explaining that the White House cooperated fully with special counsel Robert Mueller and “there is no reason to go any further, especially in Congress where it’s very partisan.”

“Outdated laws” need fixing to deal with the surge in illegal immigrant families crossing the U.S. border with Mexico, a top Border Patrol official said Friday.

Migrant families face no consequences if apprehended trying to cross the border illegally under present law, Border Patrol chief of Operations Brian Hastings claimed during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

“We need a change in the current outdated laws that we’re dealing with for this current demographic and this crisis that we have,” he said.

Hastings said as of Thursday there have been 440,000 apprehensions along the southwest border. There were 396,000 apprehensions all of last year.

SOUTHERN BORDER AT ‘BREAKING POINT’ AFTER MORE THAN 76,000 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TRIED CROSSING IN FEBRUARY, OFFICIALS SAY

And those numbers continue to rise, he said.

Historically 70 to 90 percent of apprehensions at the border were quickly returned to Mexico, Hastings said.

Now, 83 percent of those apprehended have come from the Central American northern triangle which includes Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, and of those 63 percent are “family units” and children who cannot be returned, he said.

“There are no consequences that we can apply to this group currently,” Hastings said. “We’re overwhelmed. If you look at agents there doing a tremendous job trying to deal with the flow.”

The law dictates children have to be released after 20 days of detention.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says that has forced immigration officials to release entire families because “you don’t want to separate families.”

Recently, he said he is drafting legislation that would allow children to be detained for more than 20 days.

Hastings said agents are frustrated with the situation but are doing the best they can with the resources they have.

“Up to 40 percent of our agents are processing at any given time,” he said. “That should say that in and of itself is pulling from those border security resources.”
