“Right” Amount of Dopamine Improves Cognitive Ability

The ‘right’ amount of dopamine in the brain makes study participants better at solving certain cognitive tasks.

This is the conclusion of Bryant Jongkees after experiments and a literature review. Ph.D. defense on 21 February.

Do you find it easy to switch between Instagram and your study assignments? Or to remember someone’s phone number? And what about saying no to a slice of that cake that yet another colleague has brought because its their birthday? If so, you may just have the right amount of dopamine in your brain.

For his Ph.D. research, Bryant Jongkees studied the relationship between dopamine and the ease with which people carry out what are termed cognitive tasks. In his experiments, the study participants were better at their tasks if the level of dopamine in their brains was artificially increased.

A liberal college professor claims there is no difference between men and women, further showcasing the neglect of facts and nature in favor of a delusional view of complete equality in the face of reality.

Fruit Juice

“For the experiment, I gave 20 study participants a fruit juice containing tyrosine, a building block for dopamine that can be found in your regular diet,” said Jongkees. “I then got them to do memory tasks. For instance, they had to look at a series of letters and then say each time if a letter that appeared on the screen had already appeared in the series. When they were given tyrosine, their performance was significantly better than when these same people were given a placebo. They were faster and made fewer mistakes.”

In his research, Jongkees also concluded that there is a link between the amount of dopamine and the number of times that people blink their eyes. He did this on the basis of an extensive literature review that involved collecting the conclusions of more than 100 previous studies on this topic. People who blink more often probably have more dopamine in their brains.

Schizophrenia and Parkinson’s Disease

The frequency of blinking can be an important source of information in clinical research. According to Jongkees, there is an optimum amount of dopamine that people should have in their brains. If the amount in your brain differs too much from this, it can cause problems. Patients with Parkinson’s disease have a significant dopamine deficiency in the brain, and thus perform less well in cognitive tasks than healthy people. Patients with Parkinson’s disease also blink their eyes less often, a clear sign of their dopamine deficiency. Schizophrenia, on the other hand, is a consequence of too much dopamine, and this can cause patients to hallucinate, be easily distracted and blink their eyes extremely frequently.

Jongkees believes that the frequency of blinking could be used in clinical research to determine which stage of the disorder the patient is in. The lower the frequency of blinking, the further advanced the Parkinson’s disease. The frequency of blinking can also give some idea of whether the patient is responding well to medication that s supposed to increase their level of dopamine: If the patient blinks more often, this is a sign that the medication is working.

Magic Pill

Will there soon be a ‘magic pill’ that is full of tyrosine and can solve concentration and memory problems? Not by a long way, says Jongkees. “We shouldn’t forget that a laboratory is a very controlled setting. The tasks in the lab don’t just translate to real exams or tests. What is more, there are many more factors in the outside world that influence a student’s exam results. A next step would be to test the power of tyrosine in everyday life.”

March 11, 2019

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Barclays economists on Monday revised lower their projection on U.S. economic growth in the first quarter to 2.0 percent from a prior estimate of 2.5 percent following the release of the government’s retail sales report for January.

“The January retail sales report was a touch better than expectations,” they wrote in a research note. “However, further downward revisions to December’s data came as a surprise to us, and point to a slower momentum in consumption spending heading into Q1.”

Jussie Smollett Attorneys Demand Apology from Chicago Mayor

The legal team representing Jussie Smollett is demanding an apology from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who earlier this week called the dismissal of 16 felony charges against the Empire actor a “whitewash of justice.”

“It is the Mayor and the Police Chief who owe Jussie – owe him an apology – for dragging an innocent man’s character through the mud,” Smollett’s lawyers said in a statement Tuesday. “Jussie has paid enough.”

The response came as Emanuel on Thursday claimed the city would calculate costs of the investigation into Smollett’s hate hoax claims and send him the bill.

“Given that he doesn’t feel any sense of contrition and remorse, my recommendation is that when he writes the check, in the memo section, he can put the words, ‘I’m accountable for the hoax,’” Emanuel said.

Earlier this week, Emanuel blasted the miscarriage of justice that let Smollett off the hook after being indicted by a grand jury on 16 felony charges revolving around his falsification of a police report.

“This is a whitewash of justice,” Emanuel said during a press conference with the Chicago Police. “A grand jury could not have been clearer.”

“I’d like to remind everybody that a grand jury indicted this individual based on only a piece of the evidence that the police had collected in that period of a time. So a grand jury actually brought the charges.”

“Where is the accountability in the system?” he added. “You cannot have, because of a person’s position, one set of rules apply to them and another set of rules apply to everybody else.”

While the dropped charges do not represent an exoneration, Smollett’s legal team has gone to great lengths to portray their client as “innocent,” despite various glaring inconsistencies in the actor’s story.

One attorney representing Smollett, for instance, on Thursday suggested in a TV interview that the two Nigerian brothers hired to attack the actor could have been wearing whiteface, which fits the description of the suspects Smollett first gave to police.

On Thursday President Trump also commented on the dismissal of the actor’s felony charges, saying the DOJ and FBI will take a look at the case.

EU leaders agree to short-term Brexit delay, granting PM Theresa May a lifeline

European Union leaders on Thursday night agreed to a short-term Brexit extension in order to allow British Prime Minister Theresa May more time to get her withdrawal agreement through Parliament -- just a week before Britain was scheduled to leave the bloc.

Britain was due to leave the E.U. on March 29 without a deal after the withdrawal agreement May negotiated with E.U. leaders in 2018 was shot down for the second time by lawmakers last week -- hurling Britain into a full-blown political crisis and leaving May scrambling for a solution to implement the result of the 2016 referendum.

TRUMP BACKS BREXIT BY PROMISING A 'LARGE SCALE TRADE DEAL' WITH UK

May’s government, as well as business leaders and pro-Remain politicians, have warned that leaving without a deal would cause chaos at ports, and lead to food and medicine shortages across the country. More pro-Brexit MPs have insisted that those alleged perils are overblown.

May is expected to put her deal again to Parliament next week, hoping that concessions that she has made to her Northern Irish coalition partner the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) will persuade them to back her deal and in turn convince the hardline Brexiteers in her own party to back her deal as a result.

To get more time to get lawmakers on her side, and to allow for the technical details of the deal through Parliament, she traveled to Brussels with a request of a delay until June 30.

The European Council, which consists of the leaders of the E.U.’s member states, had appeared skeptical of giving any delay without a firm plan, but on Thursday night announced they had agreed to a pause until May 22 -- although that is conditional on British lawmakers approving the deal next week.

UK LAWMAKERS REJECT 'NO DEAL' BREXIT, TAKE STEP CLOSER TO DELAYING DEPARTURE

If May is unsuccessful in getting her deal through Parliament, then that delay will only be until April 12, where lawmakers will then face the choice of either leaving without a deal, approving some sort of new or alternative deal, or revoking Article 50 -- the mechanism that triggers Britain’s departure from the bloc.

"What this means in practice is that until that date all options will remain open and the cliff-edge date will be delayed," European Council President Donald Tusk said in a press conference.

May used her remarks at a second press conference to focus on rallying MPs back home to her deal, urging them to pass the legislation.

“I know MPs on all sides of the debate have passionate views and I respect those different positions,” she said. “I hope we can all agree we are now at the moment of decision and I will make every effort to ensure we are able to leave with a deal and move our country forward.”

May has ruled out revoking Article 50, and has said that doing so -- in order to go back to the public with a second referendum -- would risk undermining the British public’s trust in democracy.

"I don’t believe that’s what you want and it is not what I want," May said in a televised speech from 10 Downing Street Wednesday night. "We asked you the question already and you gave us your answer. Now, you want us to get on with it."

If there had been a longer delay, it would have required Britain taking part in the European Parliament elections in May, something that it appears neither the British government nor E.U. leaders want to happen. May has also faced pressure to either resign or hold a general election as a way to break the deadlock in Parliament.

CLICK HERE FOR THE FOX NEWS APP

It is far from clear that May’s deal will muster enough votes to pass, having been rejected 391-242 just this month. That vote came just two months after it was shot down 432-202 in January -- the largest defeat for a prime minister in the history of the House of Commons.

While many on the left in Parliament oppose leaving the E.U. altogether and want a second referendum instead, much of the opposition to the deal from the right and the DUP comes from concern over the “backstop” -- a safety net by which the U.K. temporarily remains in a customs union until a trade deal in secured, so as to avoid a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Critics have pointed to the lack of a unilateral exit mechanism in the backstop as evidence that it could lead to Britain never leaving the bloc, or being forced to accept unfavorable trading terms.

May announced earlier this month that she had secured "legally binding" changes to the agreement to prevent a permanent backstop, but it was not enough to get the deal through. The government is hoping that the new assurances to the DUP bring its lawmakers on board and that the risk of no Brexit at all begins to move more pro-Brexit MPs to reluctantly back the deal.

Even if the government whips up enough votes, the deal may not even be put before Parliament. Speaker John Bercow warned on Monday that he would not allow legislation that was “substantially the same” as that that had been rejected by Parliament twice already.

Macaulay Culkin outs Hollywood Pedophiles by Name

Spread the love

During the Oscars, childhood actor Macaulay Culkin tweeted semi cryptic posts about those involved in the Oscars. Below are the screenshots of his tweets. There weren’t many tweets but the few he did post helps further the beliefs that Hollywood is run solely by satanic child predators, racist Anglophobes and anti-conservative leftists.

“Rain Malek Eats Babies”

This tweet speaks for itself. Many people have accused elites (political and Hollywood) of eating babies. There is a belief that elites eat a chemical produced by children who are abused called “adrenochrome”. This chemical gets the abuser or “pedovore” high. For centuries, there are stories of high-powered people drinking the blood of young victims.

1)

This tweet is in reference to director Bryan Singer who has been accused of raping multiple children.

2)

Without naming names, Culkin does confirm that there are many rapists in attendance of the event.

3)

Culkin compares Hudson to R Kelly, who has been accused of raping children. There have been rumors of Hudson being involved in child sex trafficking.

4)

Culkin is referring to a “list” that involves sexual favors that both Crystal and Kimmel have been accused of offering desperate actors in order to advance their career. Culkin makes light of his failed career by saying he’ll perform the “favors” to get the job.

5)

Culkin refers to Adam Levine’s name as an anagram for “mediaeval”. He doesn’t elaborate on what his name means but drops the breadcrumbs for the reader to figure it out.

6)

Culkin refers to the fake Hate crime that took place between Jussie Smollet and two extras from Nigeria. He’s pointing out the leftist stronghold held by Hollywood elites and their encouragement & support of any attack on conservatives. Just don’t get caught.

7)

The last tweet Culkin Made was a jab at the Oscars. He makes it clear that Hollywood is full nobodies who suck the life out of innocent and desperate people for personal gain. While they are so busy harming others with evil deeds, most of America doesn’t care about who they are. Hollywood is a failed industry.

BERLIN (Reuters) – Wulf Matthias will not stand for a second term as Wirecard’s chairman in 2020, German daily Handelsblatt said on Friday, citing sources in the financial industry.

For age reasons alone this would not be an option for Matthias, aged 75, Handelsblatt added.

Matthias will keep his mandate until it ends in 2020, the paper quoted a company spokeswoman as saying.

Wirecard was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Reuters.

ZURICH (Reuters) – Shareholders approved Credit Suisse’s 2018 compensation report with an 82 percent majority on Friday, overriding frustrations expressed at its annual general meeting over jumps in executive pay during a year its share price plummeted.

Three shareholder advisers had recommended investors vote against Switzerland’s second-biggest bank’s remuneration report, while a fourth backed the report but expressed reservations about whether management pay matched performance.

The approval marked a slight increase over the 80.8 percent support garnered for the bank’s 2017 compensation report.

By Simon Jessop and Sinead Cruise

LONDON (Reuters) – Activist investor Edward Bramson is likely to fail in his attempt to get a board seat at Barclays’ annual meeting next week, even though shareholders are dissatisfied with performance of the group’s investment bank.

New York-based Bramson’s Sherborne Investors and the board of the British bank have been sparring for months over Barclays’ strategy.

Bramson wants to scale back Barclays’ investment bank to reduce risk and boost shareholder returns. Barclays Chief Executive Jes Staley remains staunchly committed to growing the business out of trouble.

After failing to persuade Staley to change course since he began building a 5.5 percent stake in the bank in March last year, Bramson hopes a board seat will rachet up the pressure.

Both sides have written to shareholders pitching their case and Bramson has courted investors in one-on-one meetings, although none have publicly backed him yet.

Interviews by Reuters with five institutional investors in Barclays suggest Bramson has failed to persuade them.

Sherborne declined to comment.

Mirza Baig, head of investment stewardship at top-40 shareholder Aviva Investors, said Bramson was welcome on the bank’s register but the boardroom was a step too far.

“He has created a lot of value at other businesses, but, generally, when he has come in as executive chair and taken full control. This would be a different case where he would just be one lone voice on the board,” he said.

A second Barclays shareholder said he backed Bramson’s goal of improving returns but via an “evolutionary” approach.

“If you look at banks that have tried to restructure their operations in investment banking – you look at Natwest Markets, Deutsche Bank – I struggle to think of an example where a roughshod restructuring has been accretive to shareholder value.”

A third, top-30 investor said he had been impressed by incoming Chairman Nigel Higgins’ grasp of the challenge in hand, and felt investors would give him time.

“Management know they have to execute and deliver improved returns… [Higgins] will continue to re-shape the board but obviously he didn’t feel that having someone with a diametrically opposed view on it would be helpful.”

A fourth, top-30 investor agreed: “We voted for the chairman to come in and it would be crazy to allow an activist to join the board (at this time).”

Jupiter Fund Management, the 24th largest investor, said it also planned to vote against Bramson.

Barclays has nearly 500 institutional shareholders, Refinitiv data showed.

Since Staley joined Barclays in 2015, the investment bank returns relative to capital invested have increased but are still underperforming the overall business.

Barclays’ first-quarter figures showed the investment bank posted a 6 percent drop in income from its markets business and a 17 percent fall in banking advisory fees.

Returns in the investment bank fell to 9.5 percent from 13.2 percent a year ago.

Famed for successful campaigns against smaller British companies in sectors from chemicals to advertising, Bramson’s board seat pitch has been rebuffed by shareholder advisory firms.

Institutional Shareholder Services, the world’s biggest, said Bramson’s proposal “falls short of what can reasonably be expected from a shareholder trying to address issues at a 28 billion pounds, systemically important bank”.

Glass Lewis also flagged concern about Bramson’s lack of banking experience and “questionable” shareholding structure, referring to Sherborne’s use of derivative contracts to hedge losses should its strategy fail.

Critics said the arrangement meant his interests are not truly aligned with those of other long-term shareholders.

British advisory firm Pirc, however, said it recommended that investors abstain in the vote on Bramson’s proposal as a challenge to the board to do better in the year ahead – or face a similar contest in 2020.

(Reuters) – U.S. oil and natural gas producer Chevron Corp reported a 27 percent fall in quarterly earnings on Friday, hit by lower crude prices and weaker margins in its refining and chemicals businesses.

Net income attributable to the company fell to $2.65 billion, or $1.39 per share, for the first quarter ended March 31, from $3.64 billion, or $1.90 per share, a year earlier.

Earlier in the day, larger rival Exxon Mobil Corp reported earnings well below analysts’ estimates, as margins in its refining business were hurt by higher Canadian prices and heavy scheduled maintenance.
