(Reuters) – U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Friday that toymaker Fisher-Price has voluntarily recalled all its “Rock ‘n Play Sleeper” products after reports of more than 30 infant deaths.

The regulator said consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact Fisher-Price for a refund or voucher.

“We stand by the safety of our products. However, due to reported incidents in which the product was used contrary to the safety warnings and instructions, we have decided to conduct a voluntary recall of the Rock ‘n Play Sleeper in partnership with the Consumer Product Safety Commission,” Fisher Price-owner Mattel Inc said.

Kim Jung Un says North Korea must deliver ‘telling blow’ to those imposing sanctions

Without mentioning the United States by name, North Korean leader Kim Jung Un on Wednesday said his nation must deliver a "telling blow" to those imposing crippling sanctions during a meeting of the country's ruling party, according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

Kim’s remarks were the first on the continuing sanctions since his February meeting with President Trump in Hanoi broke down over the issue. It also comes ahead of Thursday’s meeting between Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in in Washington.

UN EXTENDS EXPERTS MONITORING NORTH KOREA SANCTIONS

“It did not directly mention the U.S., but linked sanctions with hostile forces,” said Shin Beom-chul, a senior fellow at the Asian Institute for Policy Studies in Seoul. “He’s saying North Korea would take an independent course unless the U.S. offered to lift sanctions. You maintain sanctions, you’re a hostile force; if you ease sanctions, you’re not.”

Kim has continued his economic push in recent weeks despite the sanctions, Reuters reported. His meeting with Trump ended over differences about how much North Korea was willing to limit its nuclear program and how much the U.S. was willing to ease economic sanctions.

On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a congressional committee that he would like to leave “a little room” in the sanctions in case North Korea makes progress in giving up its nuclear weapons.

In latest inflammatory remarks, Farrakhan warns Israel to stay away from 'black youth'

In his latest inflammatory remarks about Israel, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan warned the Israeli government to stay away from ‘black youth’ and threatened the country in a provocative video posted on Instagram Wednesday.

“There’s a saying today that Israel sees the black youth as a problem for them,” Farrakhan told his followers. “Israel! A government after black youth.”

“Well let me tell you something Israel, you’re making a very big mistake. And your hastening, you’re doomed,” Farrakhan said while his followers applauded.

“You leave my black brothers and sisters alone because you fear what they are going to become if they listen to Farrakhan,” the controversial leader warned Israel.

Farrakhan, known for his anti-Semitic remarks, appears to have made the comments Feb. 17 during a “Savior’s Day” speech in Chicago. “Savior’s Day” is a Nation of Islam holiday.

During the same speech Farrakhan defended Minnesota congresswoman Omar Ilan and her tweets that were condemned as being anti-Semitic, advising her not to apologize.

“So you’re not lying, so if you’re not lying stop laying down,” Farrakhan shouted.

Farrakhan also said “the wicked Jews want to use me to break up the women’s movement” while addressing the #MeToo movement at the same conference according to reports.

Golf: Brexit uncertainty a big concern for R&A ahead of this year’s Open

The 147th Open Championship
FILE PHOTO: Golf - The 147th Open Championship - Carnoustie, Britain - July 18, 2018 Martin Slumbers CEO of The R&A during a new conference REUTERS/Paul Childs

February 26, 2019

(Reuters) – R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers said that the uncertainty surrounding Brexit had caused “significant concern” ahead of this year’s British Open at Royal Portrush and that he would be pleased when the tournament is over.

The United Kingdom is due to leave the European Union on March 29 and a potentially disorderly no-deal Brexit could leave the organizers with logistical problems as they plan to move over 2,000 containers to Northern Ireland.

Uncertainty over the backstop to retain an open border on Ireland is the main cause for concern.

“Like every business, and I think about the Open as such, the lack of certainty about the rules, the law in which we are operating under post-March 29 has caused us significant concern,” Slumbers told the BBC.

“In hindsight would I be wanting to do Portrush in the year that we would be potentially leaving the European Union without a deal? No.

“We as a management team have spent a lot of time looking at contingencies and what we need to do. The future of the border is the number one concern. We have over 2000 containers to get across the Irish Sea and we start building on April 2.”

The EU has refused to make changes in the legal withdrawal agreement for Britain, saying that the backstop is needed as an insurance that no border controls could return between EU member state Ireland and Northern Ireland after Brexit.

“We have engagement with ministers and Parliament but the concern is all around certainty. If you know the rules you’re playing by then you can play, you optimize what you’ve got,” Slumbers added.

“The problem is we don’t know whether to reschedule to bring all our containers in through Dublin, whether to move them through Belfast, whether to ship them out of the UK now.

“It doesn’t threaten the staging, we’ll make it happen. It’s just more complex than we anticipated. For the insiders it’s a bit harder but for everyone outside it won’t impact at all, they won’t notice.”

Portrush will stage the Open for the first time since 1951 from July 18-21, with the decision on hosting rights taken in October 2015, eight months before the referendum to leave the European Union.

Futures subdued as investors brace for tepid earnings season

(Reuters) – U.S. stock index futures edged lower on Monday after the S&P 500 logged a seven-day winning streak, as investors braced for what could be the first corporate earnings decline since 2016.

With major banks slated to kick off the earnings season later in the week, analysts are expecting a 2.2 percent fall in S&P 500 earnings in the first quarter, according to Refinitiv data.

Still, the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision to suspend its three-year campaign to tighten monetary policy and hopes of a trade deal with China have lifted the benchmark index to its highest level since Oct. 9, putting it just 1.6% below its record closing high.

“While we underestimated the impact of the Fed’s pivot on equity prices, we see the earnings recession as just the beginning,” Morgan Stanley analysts led by Michael Wilson wrote in a note.

“We think there will need to be some evidence of a real turn in earnings growth for U.S. stocks to advance much further.”

The S&P 500 is trading 16.6 times its next 12-month earnings estimate, up from 14.6 times during the peak of December sell-off but below the 17.3 times at its record high hit in late September.

Taking some air out of Dow futures was Boeing Co, which slipped 4.1% in premarket trading following the planemaker’s decision to cut production of its 737 aircraft by nearly 20%.

At 7:05 a.m. ET, Dow e-minis were down 82 points, or 0.31%. S&P 500 e-minis were down 3.25 points, or 0.11% and Nasdaq 100 e-minis were down 7.75 points, or 0.1%.

Better-than-expected job growth in March helped the S&P 500 clock its best stretch of gains since October 2017. The report also helped allay fears of an economic slowdown, which has periodically roiled financial markets over the past year.

Investors are also closely watching for developments in U.S.-China trade negotiations. The White House said on Friday after three days of trade talks with Chinese officials in Washington that the negotiations “made progress on numerous key issues” but “significant work remains.”

Among other stocks, General Electric Co fell 5.3% after J.P.Morgan downgraded the conglomerate’s shares to “underweight” from “neutral”.

Micron Technology was down 1.8% after Cowen and Co cut its rating on the chipmaker’s stock to “market perform” from “outperform”.

Procter & Gamble Co climbed 1.1% after Wells Fargo raised its rating on the company’s stock to “outperform” from “market perform”.

Good morning and welcome to Fox News First. Here’s a look at what you need to know today …

EXCLUSIVE: Trump says ‘Sleepy Joe’ Biden doesn’t have what it takes

President Trump, in a wide-ranging, exclusive phone interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, dismissed the launch of former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, nicknaming him “Sleepy Joe” and saying he’s “not the brightest bulb.” Biden, the president said, has name recognition but he won’t “be able to do the job.” When asked about Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Trump criticized his record, saying Sanders had “misguided energy” and asserted that Sanders “talks a lot” but hasn’t accomplished anything. The president referred to former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas as “a fluke” who had lost much momentum and outright dismissed Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg — although he said he was “rooting” for Buttigieg. (Trump could address Biden and the other Democratic presidential candidates when he speaks today before the National Rifle Association.)

The Democratic Party’s youth movement: Biden’s biggest challenge?
Former Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair Howard Dean warned Joe Biden about the troubles he may face in his presidential campaign, especially from the “35-year-olds” who Dean says have been running the party — a clear nod to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and fellow freshmen Democrats. “This is a very different party than even the party Joe Biden ran in in 2012. Very different,” Dean continued. “A lot of people could win this race. There’s 20 people in there. I think it’s going to take $20 million to get to the starting line. If you can’t raise $20 million, you’re gone, and I think that’s going to take care of about six or eight of these folks. … But it is not the same party that it was five years ago.” A progressive political group that boosted Ocasio-Cortez’s bid for Congress last year vowed to oppose Biden and blasted him as part of the “old guard.”

More tales from the FBI texts
Text messages between former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page indicate they discussed using briefings to the Trump team after the 2016 election to identify people they could “develop for potential relationships,” track lines of questioning and “assess” changes in “demeanor” – language one GOP lawmaker called “more evidence” of irregular conduct in the original Russia probe. Fox News has learned the texts, initially released in 2018 by a Senate committee, are under renewed scrutiny, with GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley and Homeland Security Committee chair Ron Johnson sending a letter Thursday night to Attorney General Bill Barr pushing for more information on the matter. President Trump, speaking on Fox News’ “Hannity” Thursday night, responded to this report by accusing Strzok and Page of an attempted “coup.” “They were trying to infiltrate the administration,” he said.

Kim accuses US of acting in ‘bad faith’
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, fresh off his summit with  Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the U.S. has been acting in “bad faith” since his Hanoi meeting with President Trump over the stalemated issue of North Korean denuclearization. The North Korean leader told the Korean Central News Agency that, “the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the region is now at a standstill and has reached a critical point,” the Straits Times of Singapore reported. Kim warned that the situation “may return to its original state as the U.S. took a unilateral attitude in bad faith at the recent second DPRK-US summit talks,” the Korean Central News Agency added.

NFL Draft 2019: It’s all about defense
The first round of the 2019 NFL Draft saw a run on defensive players, with eight of the top 12 picks in Nashville coming from that side of the ball. After Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray was taken first overall by the Arizona Cardinals, the San Francisco 49ers started a run of four straight front-seven players by taking Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa with the second overall pick — the highest draft slot for any Buckeye since left tackle Orlando Pace went No. 1 overall to the St. Louis Rams in 1997.

Joe Biden’s brain surgeon said his former patient is “totally in the clear” as speculation over the candidate’s health — with Biden possibly becoming the oldest president in U.S. history — is likely to become a campaign issue.

The former vice president, who had been perceived by many as the strongest potential contender for the Democratic Party’s 2020 presidential nomination, formally announced his candidacy Thursday.

But Biden’s age – 76 – is expected to become a source of attacks from a younger generation of Democrats not because of obvious generational differences, but possibly for actual health concerns if Biden gets into office.

WHY THE MEDIA ARE CONVINCED JOE BIDEN WILL IMPLODE

Biden himself agreed last year that “it’s totally legitimate” for people to ask questions about his health if he decides to run for president, given his medical history — which has included brain surgery in 1988.

“I think they’re gonna judge me on my vitality,” Biden told “CBS This Morning.” “Can I still run up the steps of Air Force Two? Am I still in good shape? Am I – do I have all my faculties? Am I energetic? I think it’s totally legitimate people ask those questions.”

“I think they’re gonna judge me on my vitality. …  I think it’s totally legitimate [that] people ask those questions.”

— Joe Biden

But Dr. Neal Kassell, the neurosurgeon who operated on Biden for an aneurysm three decades ago, told the Washington Examiner that Biden appears to be “totally in the clear” — and even joked that the operation made Biden “better than how he was.”

“Joe Biden of all of the politicians in Washington is the only one that I’m certain has a brain, because I have seen it,” Kassell said. “That’s more than I can say about all the other candidates or the incumbents.”

“Joe Biden of all of the politicians in Washington is the only one that I’m certain has a brain, because I have seen it.”

BIDEN’S CLAIM HE DIDN’T WANT OBAMA TO ENDORSE TRIGGERS MOCKERY

At the same time, however, Biden hasn’t been forthcoming about his health at least since 2008 when he released his medical records as a vice presidential candidate. The disclosure that time revealed some fairly minor issues such as an irregular heartbeat in addition to detailing previous operations, including removing a benign polyp during a colonoscopy in 1996, the outlet reported.

It remains unclear if Biden had more aneurysms. Some medical experts say that people who have had an aneurysm can have another one.

An aneurysm, or a weakening of an artery wall, can lead to a rupture and internal bleeding, potentially placing a patient’s life in jeopardy.

Biden won’t be the only Democrat grappling with old age. Sen. Bernie Sanders, another 2020 frontrunner, is currently 77 years old and agreed with Biden last year that their ages will be an issue in the race.

“It’s part of a discussion, but it has to be part of an overall view of what somebody is and what somebody has accomplished,” Sanders told Politico.

“Look, you’ve got people who are 50 years of age who are not well, right? You’ve got people who are 90 years of age who are going to work every day, doing excellent work. And obviously, age is a factor. But it depends on the overall health and wellbeing of the individual.”

German carmaker Daimler endured a weak start to the year, echoing troubles at other major manufacturers, as sales in the big Chinese market stuttered.

The company said Friday that its net income fell to 2.1 billion euros ($2.3 billion) in the first quarter from 2.3 billion euros during the same period a year earlier, while revenue dipped to 39.7 billion euros from 39.8 billion euros.

Vehicle sales fell 4% to 773,800 units, with a double-digit percentage drop in China offsetting gains in other markets like the U.S. and Europe.

The company said there were also problems with high inventories and bottlenecks in the supply chain.

Chairman Dieter Zetsche said that “we cannot and will not be satisfied with this — as expected — moderate start to the year.”

President Ashraf Ghani has inaugurated the country’s new parliament after almost six months since elections were held and following long delays, claims of voter fraud, unresolved disputes and political bickering.

Ghani spoke at the ceremony on Friday in Kabul, which brought together both the lower, legislative 249-seat chamber and the appointed 104-member upper house.

He expressed regret over the delays and the fact that 33 seats for lawmakers from the districts in central Kabul province were empty because the election commission still has not announced results for those districts.

Ghani blamed what he said was the “inefficiency of former election commission members” who have since been replaced.

The October election day was marred by bombings and attacks on polling stations across the country that killed 27 civilians and 11 policemen.

Cambodian authorities have ordered a one-hour reduction in the length of school days because of concerns that students and teachers may fall ill from a prolonged heat wave.

Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron said in an announcement seen Friday that the shortened hours will remain in effect until the rainy season starts, which usually occurs in May. The current heat wave, in which temperatures are regularly reaching as high as 41 Celsius (106 Fahrenheit), is one of the longest in memory.

Most schools in Cambodia lack air conditioning, prompting concern that temperatures inside classrooms could rise to unhealthy levels.

School authorities were instructed to watch for symptoms of heat stroke and urge pupils to drink more water.

The new hours cut 30 minutes off the beginning of the school day and 30 minutes off the end.

School authorities instituted a similar measure in 2016.
