Prosecutors examine video altercation between teen, deputies

Prosecutors are examining the actions of a Florida sheriff's deputy who slammed a pepper-sprayed teen's head into the ground.

Broward County State Attorney Mike Satz announced Monday that his staff will meet Tuesday with the 15-year-old student who had an altercation with two deputies.

The deputies had responded to a fight Thursday outside a suburban Fort Lauderdale McDonald's where 200 students gathered. Sheriff's office reports say the 15-year-old picked up a phone belonging to a student being detained.

Video shows Sgt. Greg LaCerra sprayed the teen after he stood up and appeared to say something to him. LaCerra then threw the teen to the ground, where Deputy Christopher Krickovich jumped on him, slammed his head twice and punched him.

Krickovich was placed on restricted duty. His union says his actions were in self-defense. The teen wasn't seriously hurt.

Google flipped seats, shifted millions of votes to Dems in 2018 midterms, researcher tells RT

Google’s biased search algorithm actually flipped seats in the 2018 US midterm elections, according to a researcher who found the search engine’s “dramatically biased” results could have shifted over 78 million votes to Democrats.

Upwards of 25 percent of the national elections in the world are being decided without people’s knowledge by Google’s search algorithm,” senior research psychologist Dr. Robert Epstein of the American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology told RT, calling the search engine the “deciding factor” in close races.

Epstein’s study of three 2018 California House races found Google played the deciding role in flipping those Republican-held seats to the Democrats, influencing millions of undecided voters by controlling what they saw when they searched 500 election-related terms. Google’s results showed a “significant liberal bias,” unlike Bing’s or Yahoo’s – and with 90 percent of the search engine’s market share in the US, that bias is enormously influential.

Search results favoring one side of an issue can influence anywhere from 20 to 80 percent of undecided voters, depending on the issue and demographic group, Epstein said. He has spent six years investigating the role of what he calls the Search Engine Manipulation Effect (SEME) in swaying public opinion, more recently focusing on the political ramifications by looking at various countries’ elections.

People trust algorithmic output. They trust Google. They think because it’s generated by a computer, they don’t see the human hand – they think it’s impartial and objective and, because of that, their opinions change,” Epstein said.

While Google denies it manipulates search rankings to manipulate political sentiment or makes election-specific tweaks, Epstein says their response is disingenuous – he never claimed they re-ranked results, merely that the results they displayed were biased.

We found very consistently that on Google they ended up with search results favoring liberals and favoring liberal news sources, and it was quite a dramatic effect.

Estonian watchdog says unacceptable clients remain in banking system

TALLINN (Reuters) – Unacceptable clients remain in the Estonian banking system despite tougher regulation, the country’s financial watchdog said on Wednesday, adding that some lenders will be placed under detailed monitoring.

The move by Estonia’s Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA) follows a special review of the country’s 16 banks, instigated after 200 billion euros ($225 billion) of suspicious payments were last year found to have moved through Danske Bank’s small Estonian branch.

“Despite the implementation of know-your-customer measures there are clients who are not acceptable for the Estonian financial system,” FSA board member Andre Nomm told a news conference.

The money laundering crisis deepened when Swedish lender Swedbank was linked to the scandal in February.

Swedbank is the subject of a joint investigation by the Swedish and Baltic financial watchdogs after media reports said the bank knew about transactions worth up to 20 billion euros a year from high-risk, non-resident clients through its Estonian branch between 2010 and 2016.

Nomm said the risks to Estonian banking from serving non-residents have been substantially reduced and that the majority of the banking was now focused on serving local business and private clients.

However, he said some banks, including Swedbank, had been put on detailed monitoring plans. Nomm declined to name the other banks but said they covered the entire spectrum of the country’s banking system.

“We are giving a single and consistent message to the managers of the banks that Estonia is no place for dodgy banking,” Nomm said in a separate statement.

Swedbank Chairman Lars Idermark quit last week, only days after the board ousted its chief executive over her handling of the money laundering scandal.

Alabama Democratic Sen. Doug Jones gets first GOP challenger for 2020

An Alabama congressman on Wednesday became the first prominent Republican to enter the race to challenge Democratic Sen. Doug Jones, one of the most vulnerable incumbents up for re-election in 2020.

U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne announced his intention to run for the seat that was once held by former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, vowing to be a senator “who will fight with President Trump.”

“We have nominate the right conservative to run this race,” Byrne said in a phone interview with Fox News on Wednesday night after his announcement with supporters in Mobile. “Somebody who can appeal to the broadest of our Republican coalition in Alabama, who can run a strong race against incumbent Democrat Doug Jones, who now has a record."

ISIS WIFE FROM ALABAMA WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE US, POMPEO SAYS

In 2017, Jones pulled off a major upset in Alabama by defeating the embattled Republican Roy Moore in a special election to fill Sessions’ vacant seat. Moore, the former chief justice of Alabama’s Supreme Court, faced multiple allegations during the campaign that he pursued romantic relationships with teenage girls while he was in his thirties -- accusations Moore repeatedly denied.

But the accusations propelled Jones to victory, making him the first Democrat to win election to the Senate from the deeply conservative state in 25 years.

U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne announced his intention to run for the seat once held by former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions during a campaign event in Mobile, vowing to be a senator “who will fight with President Trump. (Byrne campaign).

U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne announced his intention to run for the seat once held by former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions during a campaign event in Mobile, vowing to be a senator “who will fight with President Trump. (Byrne campaign).

“I think 2017 was just a totally unique situation,” Byrne said. “It was very strange from the beginning to the end. I just don’t see that happening again. President Trump will be at the top of the ticket. I can’t see people voting for President Trump and then going over and voting for a Democratic senator.”

JEFF SESSIONS WEIGHS POSSIBLE BID FOR OLD SENATE SEAT IN ALABAMA

Jones’ is a top target for Republicans in a state Trump won 62 percent of the vote in Alabama in 2016.

“Doug Jones is for gun control,” Byrne said. “Doug Jones is for abortion. Doug Jones is against the wall. Doug Jones was against Judge Kavanaugh. Doug Jones is against Donald Trump. I’d say each and every one of those is disqualifying.”

Asked to assess Trump’s first term, Byrne cited the president’s record on judges, tax reform, the economy and border security and said, “I’ve been very pleased. I think he’s been a great president. I’ve been pleased to be one of the strongest supporters he’s got in Congress.”

Byrne, a former state legislator and chancellor of Alabama's two-year college system, was first elected to Congress in 2013. He made an unsuccessful bid for Alabama’s governorship in 2010.

Jones’ campaign issued a statement Wednesday calling Byrne a “career politician.”

“It doesn’t matter if Senator Jones has 1 opponent or 100. His focus is working for the people of Alabama whether it’s protecting our auto jobs and farmers against dangerous tariffs or building health care infrastructure in Alabama’s rural communities,” the Democrat’s campaign statement said.

The GOP primary could attract a large field, with others, like Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh, considering getting into the race.

Sessions, who was forced out of the Justice Department last year after infuriating the president over his recusal from the Russia investigation, hasn’t ruled out running for his old seat. But the former attorney general has not made any noticeable moves indicating he is preparing for a run.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

UGA fraternity suspended after racist video spread online

Four students were expelled from a University of Georgia fraternity on Saturday after a video depicting them using racial slurs and mocking the mistreatment of slaves went viral on social media.

According to UGA student newspaper The Red and Black, the video that surfaced online on Friday showed four members of the Xi-Lambda chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon pretending to use a belt as a whip while saying "pick my cotton," followed by a curse word and a racial slur.

The fraternity said that the incident took place off-campus at a non-Tau Kappa Epsilon function and condemned the students' behavior in a statement posted online.

"Tau Kappa Epsilon is disgusted, appalled and angered by the remarks shown in a video of four expelled members," the fraternity said in a statement. "TKE will not tolerate any actions such as these that would be defined as racist, discriminatory and/or offensive."

The video had attracted the notice of UGA's student government association, which said the chapter of TKE was "currently suspended" pending an investigation.

The university also rebuked the video in its own statement on Saturday.

Dems Pave Way For Illegal Voters As Trump Demands More Border Money

If anyone is manufacturing facts concerning border security it is the leftist train wreck known as the Democratic Party.

The numbers the Democrats choose to ignore are staggering.

“The number of families snared trying to sneak into the U.S. soared by 50 percent in one month alone, setting an all-time record with more than 36,000 family members apprehended, Homeland Security officials announced Tuesday,” as reported by the Washington Times.

It is difficult to ignore the preferential consideration the illegal alien that murdered Mollie Tibbetts is receiving or the Somali gangs turning the streets of Minneapolis into a war zone.

It’s hard to forget that MS-13 is actively hunting off-duty New York Police as Fox News reported, “Intel has been obtained that members of MS13 are looking to ‘hit’ NYPD police officers, specifically in the Brentwood/Central Islip area, as well as possibly Patchogue in order to gain street credibility. These members are conducting reconnaissance of [member of service] private residences.”

It’s so bad that MS-13 has forced El Salvadoran police to flee El Salvador as The New Zealand Herald reported “They were given one of the most dangerous orders in policing: Take down MS-13. They were bankrolled by the United States and trained by FBI agents. But members of the Salvadoran police have been killed by the dozens in each of the past three years…Now, a number of El Salvador’s police officers are fleeing the gang they were tasked with eliminating…..the Washington Post has identified 15 officers in the process of being resettled as refugees by the United Nations and six officers who have either recently received asylum or have scheduled asylum hearings in US immigration courts.“

It’s hardly manufactured.

While Democrats claim the side-effects of illegal immigration are predominantly prevalent at points of entry, there are child molesters, drug dealers, and human traffickers frequently flowing into the interior of the United States because hundreds of miles of the southern border are wide open.

The bottom line is Democrats aren’t protecting our border because they are actually protecting the United Nations migration replacement plan.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday said his government must make men aware of the dangers of poor hygiene after expressing dismay over the 1,000 penis amputations that apparently occur in his country each year.

“In Brazil, we have 1,000 penis amputations a year due to a lack of water and soap,” he said while speaking to reporters in Brasilia after visiting the Education Ministry. “We have to find a way to get out of the bottom of this hole.”

The far-right leader called the figure “ridiculous and sad,” Reuters reported. A spokeswoman for the Brazilian urology society told the news agency the number is based on its official data for penis amputations.

The amputations were conducted out of necessity over untreated infections, along with complications from HIV and various cancers, she said.

A top Russian diplomat says Russia is willing to negotiate a new nuclear weapons treaty with the United States and China.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on Friday Moscow is closely following reports in the United States that the U.S. would like to reach a nuclear weapons deal with both Russia and China, and is “willing” to negotiate. The story was reported by CNN earlier Friday.

Ryabkov also said that Russia “would like to convince” the U.S. to adopt a joint statement that would condemn any use of nuclear weapons.

Ryabkov’s comments come just months after the U.S. withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, a cornerstone of the post-Cold War security, and Russia followed suit. Each claims breaches by the other.

Government dysfunction and an intelligence failure that preceded the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka are traced to simmering divisions between the president and prime minister after a weekslong political crisis that crippled the country last year.

The government has admitted to a “lapse of intelligence” after officials failed to act upon near-specific information received from foreign agencies. Suicide bombers exploded themselves last Sunday in three churches and three luxury hotels, killing 253 people and wounding 400 more. Authorities said eight Muslim militants blew themselves up at their targets while the wife of one of the attackers blasted herself on being rounded up by police.

The carnage has brought forth arguments that worshippers and holidaymakers fell victim to the rivalry and a lack of communication between the country’s two leaders — President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Cabinet led by Wickremesinghe says neither he nor his ministers were informed of the intelligence received by the defense authorities. Sirisena is the head of state, defense minister, minister in charge of the police and head of the armed forces. He also chairs the National Security Council, which includes the heads of security agencies and departments. Traditionally the prime minister also plays an important role on the council.

According to Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne, Sirisena has not included Wickremesinghe in national security affairs since a dispute between them came into the open in October last year. This is an unusual departure from the protocol, he said.

Senaratne said that Sirisena was overseas when the attacks took place and even after that, the National Security Council refused to meet with Wickremesinghe as he tried to give them instructions.

Sirisena has also said that he was not informed of the intelligence received and vowed to overhaul the leadership of the defense forces.

The top bureaucrat at the Defense Ministry, Hemasiri Fernando, has resigned at Sirisena’s insistence.

“It is a major factor,” said Jehan Perera, the head of local activist group National Peace Council, referring to the alleged lack of coordination between the leaders contributing to the failure to prevent the attacks.

“The primary responsibility has to be taken by the president, he did not give the information and he did not act,” Perera said. “He had the Ministry of Defense, took the police from the prime minister, chaired the National Security Council meetings and did nothing,” Perera said.

Kusal Perera, a journalist and political commentator, says security and intelligence officials should have acted on the information whether or not they received orders from politicians.

“If they (Wickremesinghe and his party) were not invited to the National Security Council, why did not they say in Parliament that they were not responsible for the security of the country any longer,” said Perera, who is not related to Jehan Perera.

“Saying that now is taking political advantage, not taking responsibility,” he said.

Sirisena and Wickremesinghe belong to different political parties but came together for Sirisena’s presidential campaign in 2015. Their relationships broke down and their differences exploded last year when Sirisena suddenly sacked Wickremesinghe as prime minister and appointed in his place former strongman Mahinda Rajapaksa, whom he defeated in the presidential election. The crisis crippled the country for more than seven weeks to the point of not being able to pass this year’s national budget on time.

A court decision compelled Sirisena to reappoint Wickremesinghe, but the two leaders have been rivals within the same government.

Rajapaksa, who is the minority leader in Parliament, blames the government for weakening intelligence and dropping its guard, which he had maintained to defeat the separatist Tamil Tiger rebels 10 years ago to end the 26-year-old civil war. He also criticized the government for the detention of intelligence officers accused of extrajudicial killings and abductions during the closing days of the war, which he said crippled the security apparatus before the bombings. According to conservative U.N estimates, some 100,000 people were killed in Sri Lanka’s conflict.

Sirisena summoned an all-party conference Thursday to which Wickremesinghe was also invited. At the conference, Sirisena stressed “setting aside all the political beliefs and difference (so that) everybody should collectively commit towards building a peaceful environment within the country,” a statement from his office said.

“It is not a secret that the disagreements between me and the government aggravated over the past two years,” Sirisena told the country’s media executives Friday. “One of the reasons for that is weakening of military intelligence and arresting military officials unnecessarily and my speaking up against it within and outside the government.”

Jehan Perera said that the security threat could prove politically advantageous to Rajapaksa and his family, with a presidential election scheduled at the end of this year. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, a younger brother of Mahinda, was the powerful defense secretary during his brother’s reign and has expressed his interest to join the contest.

“People are saying we want a stronger leader and they are talking about Gotabhaya. It (the blasts) has worked to their benefit,” Perera said.

Cyprus police are intensifying a search for the remains of more victims at locations where an army officer, who authorities say admitted to killing five women and two girls, allegedly had dumped their bodies.

Police said Friday’s search will concentrate on a military firing range, a reservoir and a man-made lake near an abandoned mine approximately 32 kilometers (20 miles) west of the capital Nicosia.

On Thursday, the 35-year-old suspect told investigators that he had killed four more people than he had previously admitted to. All the suspect’s alleged victims are foreign nationals.

Police have already found the bodies of a 38-year-old Filipino woman and two as yet unidentified women.

A California man who allegedly fatally shot his ex-girlfriend in broad daylight last month before fleeing the country has been returned to the U.S. following his arrest in Mexico on Wednesday, authorities said.

Julio Cesar Rocha, 25, of Montlcair, is accused of shooting his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend Thalia Flores and a second unidentified male victim March 21 around 2:45 p.m. while the two were sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of a discount store in Chino. Both communities are about 36 miles east of Los Angeles.

Flores died at the scene. The man, whose name was not released, walked to a nearby hospital where he’s recovering from his gunshot wounds.

Rocha allegedly fled the scene and remained at large for more than a month, the Daily Bulletin reported. He was formally arrested at 4:30 p.m. after arriving at Los Angeles International Airport from Mexico, KTLA-TV reported.

The suspect was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on murder and attempted murder charges, the City of Chino Police Department said on Facebook.

Flores ended her seven-year relationship with Rocha just two months before her death and still lived in fear of him until that point, a sister of the victim, Bernice Flores, told the Daily Bulletin.

“He said himself so many times to other people, ‘If I can’t have her, no one will.’ ” Flores said, adding that her sister stayed in the relationship longer that she would have liked in fear that Rocha would hurt her or her family if they broke up.

Rocha was convicted on misdemeanor battery in 2016 and sentenced to 60 days in prison. He was originally charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, but the charges were lowered in a plea deal, the Daily Bulletin reported.
