Trump predicts ‘Crazy Bernie Sanders,’ ‘Sleepy Joe Biden’ will be 2 Dem ‘finalists’ in 2020 race

President Trump offered his thoughts Tuesday night on which two Democratic contenders he thinks will be left standing in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.

Out of the crowded pool of contenders, Trump predicted on Twitter that former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders will be the final two in the battle to be the party’s nominee.

“I believe it will be Crazy Bernie Sanders vs. Sleepy Joe Biden as the two finalists to run against maybe the best Economy in the history of our Country (and MANY other great things)!” he wrote. “I look forward to facing whoever it may be. May God Rest Their Soul!”

While Sanders, I-Vt., confirmed in February that he would be running again for president, Biden has yet to formally enter the race.

WHO ARE THE WEALTHIEST 2020 DEMS? WITH TAX RETURNS IN, THE ANSWER MAY SURPRISE YOU

The president’s prediction came after he targeted Sanders in a separate tweet, speaking about the lawmaker’s finances.

“Bernie Sanders and wife should pay the Pre-Trump Taxes on their almost $600,000 in income,” Trump wrote. “He is always complaining about these big TAX CUTS, except when it benefits him. They made a fortune off of Trump, but so did everyone else - and that’s a good thing, not a bad thing!”

Shortly ahead of a Fox News town hall Monday night, Sanders’ presidential campaign released his 2018 returns. According to the figures, Sanders and his wife Jane paid a 26 percent effective tax rate on $561,293 in income, and made more than $1 million in both 2016 and 2017. Nearly $400,000 of his income last year came from book sales.

Sanders later fired back at the president for his remarks, tweeting that Trump seemed “scared of our campaign.”

“He should be,” he continued.

February 20, 2019

DUBAI/DOHA (Reuters) – The United Arab Emirates has eased a ban on the shipping of goods between it and Qatar enforced under an ongoing political and economic boycott of Doha, according to port circulars and an industry source.

An Abu Dhabi Ports circular dated Feb. 12 canceled previous directives that banned cargoes of Qatar origin from UAE waters and ports and those of UAE origin from Qatar. It maintained a ban on vessels flying the Qatar flag, owned by Qatari shipping firms or nationals.

An industry source told Reuters the circular applied to all ports in the UAE. Government authorities in both Gulf Arab states were not immediately available to comment.

Father of woman allegedly killed by taxi says he will never forgive driver

The father of a woman killed when she was struck by a taxi in New York on Sunday said he’ll never forgive the driver.

Prakash Hundalani told NBC New York that his family was mourning his daughter’s death.

"Oh, my God, she was so caring, so loving, such a beautiful daughter, only 26 years old," Prakash Hundalani said. "I can't believe this. We cannot believe this. Our family is totally torn apart."

DRONE SEARCHING FOR MISSING DOG IS SHOT OUT OF SKY BY NEW YORK MAN, POLICE SAY

Hundalani’s daughter, Sherena Hundalani, worked as a manager at her father’s restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. She was killed while walking on the sidewalk close to her home in Queens, the New York Post reported. A green taxi struck her and then allegedly kept going as bystanders chased it.

"She was just standing on the sidewalk, waiting for a signal to go red so she could walk and cross," Prakash said of his daughter.

The 55-year-old driver was taken in for questioning before he was released without charges, NBC New York reported. The driver told authorities he could not stop the vehicle “after it suffered mechanical failure,” a source told the New York Post. Authorities have not released the driver’s name.

PREGNANT MOM OF 6 KILLED TRYING TO PROTECT FAMILY FROM ROAD-RAGING DRIVER: COPS

"What was his condition that he ran over her on the sidewalk when pedestrians were standing there?" Prakash said. "She was the only one waiting for a signal, it looks like."

"I will never forgive the taxi driver," he continued. "I don't know how you can hit her on the sidewalk."

Police were investigating the incident.

BlackRock’s Larry Fink overhauls leadership ranks in key business units

NEW YORK (Reuters) – BlackRock Inc, the world’s largest asset manager, has made changes to its senior leadership ranks aimed at winning more business from top institutional clients and boosting growth of its alternative investing business, according to a memo seen by Reuters on Tuesday.

BlackRock, with more than $6 trillion in assets under management, is giving primary responsibility for those institutional clients to executives in local regions.

It is also putting Edwin Conway in charge of BlackRock Alternative Investors, a group of complex investment products that Chief Executive Larry Fink thinks can amp up the company’s profits.

BlackRock, known best for funds that track the stock and bond markets, has been putting more emphasis on so-called illiquid alternative investments, complex investments including private equity and real estate that typically come with higher fees and are more likely to be sold to an institution than a mom-and-pop investor.

Conway, previously head of Blackrock’s institutional client business, will succeed David Blumer, who is becoming an adviser. The alternative group’s chairman is Mark Wiseman, one of several people tipped as Fink’s possible successors .

As part of the changes, Mark McCombe, another potential Fink successor, takes on a new role as chief client officer to work with global clients, including governments, financial companies and investment consultants that steer money from big clients, such as pension funds. Rob Fairbairn, who is already responsible for some top clients, becomes a vice chairman.

Fink, one of BlackRock’s founders in 1988, has neither signaled any intention to leave nor publicly named a successor. He told analysts last year that he thinks the alternative investments business can be a source of major growth for the company.

Asset managers have been squeezed by rising competition and pressure to reduce fees, and in recent months many have been cutting jobs and costs. Even BlackRock, which has benefited by offering low-cost exchange-traded funds, announced layoffs in January. At the time Fink pledged to continue investing in what he sees as growth opportunities.

The changes “show our commitment to constant reinvention and to the ongoing development of our senior leaders,” Fink and BlackRock President Rob Kapito wrote in the memo. “They are also designed to reinvigorate our approach at every level of the firm – and with every employee – at a critical time.”

Other changes announced on Tuesday included naming a new head of its Latin American business and corporate strategy. BlackRock elevated a new chief product officer, Patrick Olson, to a role that had been unfilled. Richard Prager, who runs the company’s trading and its lucrative operations lending out stocks, will retire. And Rick Rieder, a top BlackRock investor and global chief investment officer of fixed income, will be leading a “Global Allocation” team that picks investments across stocks, bonds and commodities.

John Dean: Mueller Report ‘More Damning’ Than Watergate

Special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russia's intervention in the 2016 election was "more damning" to President Donald Trump than the Watergate report was to former President Richard Nixon, according to former White House counsel John Dean.

In an interview on CNN's "The Lead," Dean said Attorney General William Barr's handling of the Mueller report was "very disappointing."

"One of the post-Watergate norms was that attorney generals did not serve as the president's personal counsel," he said, adding: "And Mr. Barr today violated all the norms that have been established post-Watergate and took us back into Nixonian-type operations."

Dean said called the Mueller report "devastating."

"I looked on my shelf for the Senate Watergate Committee report. I looked at the Iran/Contra Report," he said. "I also looked at the Ken Starr report . . . I've read all of those. And in 400 words, this report from the special counsel is more damning than all those reports about a president. This is really a devastating report."

And while the Justice Department concluded evidence in the report was insufficient to establish obstruction of justice, Dean said he thought the violation was clear.

"This is clear obstruction," Dean declared. "The obstruction statute is an endeavor statute, as well as actual overt action. If you endeavor to obstruct – and there is much evidence here of endeavor – you violated the obstruction statue."

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – German drugs and pesticides maker Bayer said it had detected a cyber attack on its computer networks but that data had not been stolen.

Bayer had found infectious software from a hacker group known as Winnti in early 2018. The company’s Cyber Defense Center had managed to restore and clear the affected systems, Bayer said in a statement.

“There is no evidence of data theft,” the statement said, though a spokesman added that the overall damage is still being assessed.

The Winnti group of hackers attacked computer systems at German technology group ThyssenKrupp in 2016, according to media reports at the time.

A Cook County judge recently called out embattled State Attorney Kim Foxx for upholding a double standard by prosecuting a woman for filing a false police report — but dropping similar charges against embattled “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett.

Foxx has faced intense criticism over her office’s decision to drop a 16-count indictment against Smollett, just weeks after bringing the charges against the high-profile TV star. Foxx’s deal with Smollett, which did not require him to admit guilt, drew ire from the public, the city’s top cop and the former mayor who called it a “whitewash of justice.”

JUSSIE SMOLLETT CHICAGO PROSECUTOR KIM FOXX CHIDED BY NATIONAL ATTORNEYS GROUPS AFTER JUSSIE SMOLLETT CHARGES DROPPED

Cook County Judge Marc Martin, who was presiding over an unrelated case, chastised Foxx and her office for creating a situation where anyone charged with filing a false report would expect the same leniency her office afforded Smollett.

Candace Clark, 21, is facing one felony count of making a false report. Prosecutors accused her of giving a friend access to her bank account and then telling authorities the money had been stolen. She denies the charges and claims she’s the victim of Foxx’s double standard — something the judge weighed in on.

“Well, Ms. Clark is not a movie star, she doesn’t have a high-price lawyer, although, her lawyer’s very good. And this smells, big time,” Martin said to prosecutors during a recent hearing, Fox 32 reported. “I didn’t create this mess, your office created this mess. And your explanation is unsatisfactory to this court. She’s being treated differently.”

The judge continued, “There’s no publicity on this case. She doesn’t have Mark Geragos as her lawyer or Ron Safer or Judge Brown. It’s not right. And (if) I proceed in this matter, you’re just digging yourselves further in a hole. (If the) press gets a hold of this, it’ll be in a newspaper. Why is Ms. Clark being treated differently than Mr. Smollett?”

Foxx recused herself from the Smollett case in February but continued to oversee the investigation through text messages with her assistant Joseph Magats.

The text messages revealed Foxx called Smollett a “washed up celeb who lied to cops.” They also show she cautioned Magats about throwing the book at Smollett.

“Sooo……I’m recused, but when people accuse us of overcharging cases…16 counts on a class 4 becomes exhibit A,” Foxx wrote to Magats on March 8.

“Pedophile with 4 victims 10 counts. Washed up celeb who lied to cops, 16. On a case eligible for deferred prosecution I think it’s indicative of something we should be looking at generally. Just because we can charge something doesn’t mean we should,” she added, referring to the case of R&B singer R. Kelly, who was indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in connection with four women, three of whom were underage.

KIM FOXX’S CHIEF ETHICS OFFICER RESIGNS FOLLOWING SMOLLETT CONTROVERSY

President Trump said last month he asked for a federal review of Foxx’s decision to drop the charges against Smollett. He also called the actor “an absolute embarrassment to our country.”

The Smollett case garnered national attention and threatened to tear Chicago apart. It pit the police department and mayor against prosecutors and underscored the idea that wealthy people are somehow above the law.

Smollett told police he was attacked on Jan. 29 around 2 a.m. as he was returning home from a sandwich shop in Chicago. He said two masked men shouted racial and anti-gay slurs, poured bleach on him, beat him and tied a rope around his neck. He claimed they shouted, “This is MAGA country” — a reference to President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.

After an intense investigation, police said Smollett staged the entire incident to drum up publicity for his career.

Smollett has strongly denied the accusations.

BERLIN (Reuters) – Wulf Matthias will not stand for a second term as Wirecard’s chairman in 2020, German daily Handelsblatt said on Friday, citing sources in the financial industry.

For age reasons alone this would not be an option for Matthias, aged 75, Handelsblatt added.

Matthias will keep his mandate until it ends in 2020, the paper quoted a company spokeswoman as saying.

Wirecard was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Reuters.

Spain appears to have stemmed a surge in illegal migration that made it Europe’s main entry point for sea arrivals, after boosting joint efforts with neighboring Morocco to clamp down on the flow.

The country, which holds a national election Sunday, saw nearly 60,000 people reach its shores irregularly in 2018, most from Morocco and West Africa. But sea arrivals have plummeted since February.

While the migrant flow often fluctuates due to weather and other factors, an internal European Union report obtained by The Associated Press suggests intensified efforts to stop the migrants before they’re able to reach European waters are paying off.

The report doesn’t specify what Morocco did to hold back migrants or what it got in return other than “explicit recognition and support” from the Spanish government and the EU’s executive Commission in Brussels.

ZURICH (Reuters) – Shareholders approved Credit Suisse’s 2018 compensation report with an 82 percent majority on Friday, overriding frustrations expressed at its annual general meeting over jumps in executive pay during a year its share price plummeted.

Three shareholder advisers had recommended investors vote against Switzerland’s second-biggest bank’s remuneration report, while a fourth backed the report but expressed reservations about whether management pay matched performance.

The approval marked a slight increase over the 80.8 percent support garnered for the bank’s 2017 compensation report.

A nationwide teachers’ strike is spurring Poland’s government to hold meetings with educators, parents and experts to discuss ways to improve the country’s public schools.

Teachers’ unions refused to participate in Friday’s talks to protest the government’s refusal to grant pay increases, the unmet demand behind the nearly three-week strike that closed a majority of schools.

The unions have suspended the strike until September to allow for end-of-high-school exams and to give the government time to propose ways to satisfy teachers.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said improvements to the education system are urgently need to allow for better salaries and higher quality teaching.

Teachers want a 30% raise to their monthly earnings, which range from 1,800 zlotys to 3,000 zlotys ($470 to $780.)
