Missing Michigan man’s car found; hadn’t missed work in 30 years, authorities say

A car belonging to a missing 56-year-old Michigan man was recovered outside a church in Belleville on Thursday after he disappeared earlier this week, recording his first work absence in 30 years, authorities said.

Marcus Esper’s 2013 Buick LaCrosse sedan was towed to an evidence-holding facility as police awaited a search warrant to examine the car for clues, Belleville police Chief Hal Berriman said.

MISSING MARINE'S SUV FOUND, CREWS CONTINUE SEARCH AHEAD OF LATE-WINTER STORM, AUTHORITIES SAY

Esper was last seen around 4 p.m. Monday by his wife as he left his Superior Township condominium and headed to a storage facility in Ypsilanti Township, according to authorities.

“This is really one of those suspicious cases because he has not missed a day of work in 30 years and all of a sudden, he’s missed a day and there’s no sighting of him since he left,” Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Eugene Rush said.

CALIFORNIA DAD CHARGED WITH MURDER, TORTURE OF MISSING SON, 8

There was no evidence of illness, suicidal tendencies or any other reason for Esper not to return home, Rush said, adding that those signs typically emerge in other missing persons cases.

Johnna Esper told the Ann Arbor News that her brother lives with his wife, daughter and a grandchild. She said the family recently sold the condominium and Esper planned to rent a storage garage to temporarily store their possessions while they looked for a new home.

Family members couldn’t explain why Esper would go to Belleville, located about 15 miles southeast of Superior Township. Johnna Esper told the paper her brother had previously lived there over a decade ago.

Brexit Delay a Macron Victory – Reports

The French president has reportedly been a vocal opponent of a long Brexit extension for the UK, whose divorce from the EU was delayed until 31 October, although it was supposed to crash out the bloc by 12 April.

Some reports have suggested that he was “isolated” on the matter despite sympathy from Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

All EU member states will be able to hold summits and make decisions without the UK despite its extended membership. A “Future of Europe” meeting in Sibiu, is scheduled for 9 May after the initially planned Brexit deadline. However, the UK is still allowed to take part in the upcoming European elections on 22 May, which was supposed be after the divorce.

According to the website Euractiv, blocking London from EU decision making can be viewed as a victory for France’s President Emmanuel Macron who went against a long Brexit extension that “was not logical” and would weaken the bloc’s institutions “with a member who is there, but wants to leave,” in his viewpoint.

Alex Jones breaks down the globalists’ plan to destroy borders worldwide before bringing in their New World Order under complete totalitarian rule.

While some reports suggested that Macron was “isolated” on the matter, gaining support only from Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg, he refuted these speculations. He concluded that he saw his role as “bringing clarity” to a process the EU has never experienced before. He also branded the idea of the UK holding European elections “baroque,” noting, however, that EU member states will not prohibit the UK from holding EU elections. Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, Macron concluded “We delivered the best possible compromise.”

However, the website EU Observer reports, citing its source, that EU diplomats were annoyed by the French president, his resistance to a long extension was inspired by “internal political reasons.”

“This summit is not about the UK, but about French internal politics”, an unnamed diplomat said, as cited by the outlet.

During the Special European Council in Brussels, heads of 27 EU member states, excluding the United Kingdom, reached a consensus on Brexit delay, requested by UK Prime Minister Theresa May agreeing upon an extension to the Brexit deadline until 31 October, giving London an additional six months to figure out the best possible way to break the withdrawal impasse. According to the EU Observer, three or four member states preferred a short period, while 17 countries were for a long extension.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May told a news conference on Thursday that Britain could leave the European Union before the 30th of June, adding that she has been reaching out to find a way to reach an agreement on Brexit in the UK Parliament.

EU welcomes Azerbaijan's amnesty for 400 political activists

The European Union has welcomed Azerbaijan's decision to give amnesty to a number of political activists and journalists.

European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said the amnesty for over 400 people included representatives of political parties, non-government organizations, bloggers and journalists, calling it "a welcome step."

Kocijancic said "the European Union expects that further similar steps will follow in future in line with Azerbaijan's international commitments." She added the EU will "continue its engagement with Azerbaijan to step up the cooperation, including on human rights, which constitutes an essential element of our relationship."

Azerbaijan has maintained close ties with the West, helping protect its energy and security interests in the Caspian Sea. At the same time it has long faced criticism in the West for alleged human rights abuses and the suppression of dissent.

Sounders brace for angry Rapids

April 9, 2019

The Colorado Rapids were left seeing red after their last match Saturday at Orlando City.

Only not the type of red they wanted.

The Rapids (0-4-2), who play host to the Seattle Sounders (4-0-1) on Wednesday night in Commerce City, Colo., held a one-goal lead midway through the second half when Orlando City’s Nani went down inside the penalty box after a challenge by Kellyn Acosta.

Nani, upset that he didn’t receive a penalty kick from referee Jair Marrufo, jumped to his feet and appeared to twice head-butt Acosta.

“It’s in the FIFA rulebook. That’s a red card,” Rapids striker Kei Kamara told the Denver Post. “We’ve seen softer red cards.”

To make matters worse for the Rapids, Orlando City rallied to tie the score, and then Nani made a penalty kick in the 89th minute for the winner in a 4-3 match.

“These things affect results,” Rapids coach Anthony Hudson told the Post. “The story line is Nani’s goals and the comeback, but the reality is he shouldn’t have been on the pitch.”

It was the second consecutive game in which Rapids yielded four goals, giving them a league-high 16 goals allowed.

That doesn’t bode well against a Seattle side that is tied for fourth in MLS with 11 goals scored. The Sounders have allowed a league-low three goals.

The Sounders are 18-5-2 all-time against the Rapids, including a 2-0 victory in Seattle in the second week of this season. Kelvin Leerdam and Raul Ruidiaz scored in the opening eight minutes, and Stefan Frei posted a shutout.

The Sounders, who have a history of slow starts, are off to their best this season.

Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer said because of that history, the Sounders won’t be looking past the Rapids.

“MLS is such, and we know it all too well, you can start off slow and continue (to the playoffs),” Schmetzer told reporters after practice Monday. “(The Rapids) will be a desperate team that will be at home and will try to get as many points as possible. This is MLS, we’re not taking anything for granted or lightly at all.”

The Sounders hope to have Ruidiaz, a forward who shares the team lead with three goals, back after he missed Saturday’s 1-0 home victory against Real Salt Lake with an ankle injury.

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso said on Friday there was no change in the government’s stance that it would go ahead with a planned sales tax hike in October, barring a big economic shock on the scale of the collapse of Lehman Brothers.

Aso made the comment a day after a close aide of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told a TV program that the planned tax increase may be postponed depending on the results of the central bank’s next tankan business survey due out in July.

The tax hike to 10 percent from the current 8 percent would secure stable financial resources to pay for the bulging cost of social security for all generations, Aso told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

Congressman Wants to Cut Foreign Aid From Host Countries of Illegals

GOP Rep. Michael Burgess of Texas suggested cutting foreign aid to the host countries of illegal immigrants, on “Fox & Friends” Monday, to make up for financial losses suffered by the government.

“This bill is a bill that I had introduced before in 2014 when it was predominantly the unaccompanied minors that were coming across. I recognize that it was costing the taxpayer quite a lot to keep kids in shelters for 30 to 60 days until they could be placed with families in this country,” Burgess said.

“Deduct that amount of money from the foreign aid that’s going back to the host country or the originating country. So the calculation then was $15,000,” he continued. “I’ve actually increased that to $30,000 per child because the length of stay has increased and it’s costing a lot more to take care of these kids in shelters. There’s, what, 14, 15,000 children in shelters right now — the taxpayer’s footing the bill for that. It makes no sense then to ask the taxpayer to send money back to the home country in foreign aid. Those countries need to step up. They need to do the job.”

From Sex Cults to public groping, the top levels of the US Government are infested with creeps and perverts. Tom Pappert breaks down how their deviancy runs deeper than you imagine.

Burgess also said it’s hard to foresee a bipartisan solution for immigration when Democrats are pushing for open borders and abandoning border security.

“Right now the rhetoric I’m hearing and what I’m hearing in my committees and what is being discussed is people want no borders. The Democrats want no borders,” he said, adding:

“They really do favor just having a region rather than a border and let the free flow of goods and people come just traverse that area. Clearly a country needs borders. You’ve got to — if you don’t have borders, you don’t have a country. And the president’s said that and I agree with him very much. But the rhetoric that I’m hearing on the hill is one that is not in favor of strengthening border security.”

A California man who allegedly fatally shot his ex-girlfriend in broad daylight last month before fleeing the country has been returned to the U.S. following his arrest in Mexico on Wednesday, authorities said.

Julio Cesar Rocha, 25, of Montlcair, is accused of shooting his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend Thalia Flores and a second unidentified male victim March 21 around 2:45 p.m. while the two were sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of a discount store in Chino. Both communities are about 36 miles east of Los Angeles.

Flores died at the scene. The man, whose name was not released, walked to a nearby hospital where he’s recovering from his gunshot wounds.

Rocha allegedly fled the scene and remained at large for more than a month, the Daily Bulletin reported. He was formally arrested at 4:30 p.m. after arriving at Los Angeles International Airport from Mexico, KTLA-TV reported.

The suspect was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on murder and attempted murder charges, the City of Chino Police Department said on Facebook.

Flores ended her seven-year relationship with Rocha just two months before her death and still lived in fear of him until that point, a sister of the victim, Bernice Flores, told the Daily Bulletin.

“He said himself so many times to other people, ‘If I can’t have her, no one will.’ ” Flores said, adding that her sister stayed in the relationship longer that she would have liked in fear that Rocha would hurt her or her family if they broke up.

Rocha was convicted on misdemeanor battery in 2016 and sentenced to 60 days in prison. He was originally charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, but the charges were lowered in a plea deal, the Daily Bulletin reported.

Rocha was convicted of misdemeanor resisting or obstructing a peace officer in 2014. A second charge of misdemeanor battery was dropped in a plea deal, and Rocha was ordered to complete a 26-week anger management course, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records. Rocha was later arrested and sentenced to 10 days behind bars for failing to complete the course.

Multiple people died Thursday when a semitrailer plowed into stationary traffic that resulted in explosions and flames on a Colorado freeway, authorities said.

The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. in the Denver suburb of Lakewood when a truck driver lost control while traveling east on Interstate 70, according to a preliminary investigation. The collision started a chain reaction and a diesel fuel spill, Lakewood police spokesman Ty Countryman told the Denver Post.

“This is looking to be one of the worst accidents we’ve had here in Lakewood,” he said.

The driver of the runaway truck survived. At least one truck was carrying lumber, another was hauling gravel and the third may have been carrying mattresses, KDVR-TV reported.

President Trump will address members and leaders of the National Rifle Association on Friday at the group’s annual convention in Indiana.

Around 80,000 gun enthusiasts and more than 800 exhibitors are expected to pack the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis for the three-day event, the Indianapolis Star reported. It will mark the third straight year that Trump will deliver the keynote address, where he is expected to champion the rights of gun owners.

“Donald Trump is the most enthusiastic supporter of the Second Amendment to occupy the Oval Office in our lifetimes,” Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action (ILA), said in a statement. “President Trump’s Supreme Court appointments ensure that the Second Amendment will be respected for generations to come. Our members are excited to hear him speak and thank him for his support for our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.”

Trump and Vice President Mike Pence spoke at last year’s convention in Dallas. During his speech, Trump assured gun owners that he would protect their Second Amendment rights, according to the paper.

“Your Second Amendment rights are under siege,” Trump told the cheering audience in Dallas. “But they will never, ever be under siege as long as I am your president.”

Trump has supported some gun control measures in the past. Last year, his administration imposed a ban on bump stocks, attachments that enable semiautomatic rifles to fire in rapid bursts. Although, he most recently threatened to veto two Democratic gun control bills.

This year’s convention comes as the NRA faces outside pressure and internal problems. The group has seen its legislative agenda stall amid a series of mass shootings — including a massacre at a Parkland, Fla., high school in February 2018 that left 17 dead and launched a youth movement against gun violence.

It’s also grappling with infighting in its ranks, money problems and investigations into whether Russian agents courted officials and funneled money through the group.

“I’ve never seen the NRA this vulnerable,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, a nonprofit that advocates for gun control measure.

The convention will run through the weekend and conclude Sunday.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

(Reuters) – Ailing British retailer Debenhams said two proposed company voluntary arrangements (CVA) could see all its stores remaining open during 2019, with 22 closures planned for next year, putting about 1,200 jobs at risk.

Debenhams’ lenders took control of the retailer earlier this month in a process designed to keep its shops open at the expense of shareholders.

BENGALURU (Reuters) – Chinese brands controlled a record 66 percent of Indian smartphone market in the first quarter, led by Xiaomi Corp, a report showed, with volumes rising 20 percent on the back of popularity for brands like Vivo, RealMe and Oppo.

Xiaomi’s India shipments fell by 2 percent over last year, but the Beijing-based company was still the biggest smartphone brand in the country, followed by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, according to Hong-Kong based Counterpoint Research.

Shipment volumes for Vivo jumped 119 percent, while those of Oppo rose 28 percent.

“Vivo’s expanding portfolio in the mid-tier range ($100 to $180) drove its growth along with aggressive Indian Premier League cricket campaign,” Counterpoint analysts said.

India is the world’s fastest growing market for smartphones, where affordable pricing coupled with features like “selfie” cameras and big screens have popularized Chinese brands.

Video streaming services like Netflix Inc and Hotstar, as well as heavy usage of messaging apps like Facebook Inc’s WhatsApp have further spurred demand.

“Data consumption is on the rise and users are upgrading their phones faster as compared to other regions,” Counterpoint’s Tarun Pathak said.

“As a result of this, the premium specs are now diffusing faster into the mid-tier price brands. We estimate this trend to continue leading to a competitive mid-tier segment in coming quarters.”
