CNN has hit an all-year ratings low, according to Nielsen Media Research, and the network is especially hurting during prime time hours when it seems more Americans would rather watch Hallmark movies.

The network, which experienced a ratings boost thanks to Russiagate, is now shedding viewers after the Mueller probe fizzled away without the bombshell revelations the network’s viewers likely anticipated.

CNN had its lowest-rated week of the year in prime time, while MSNBC had its second lowest-rated week of the year in the 25-54 demo and its third lowest among total viewers in prime time,” reported TVNewser. “Yes, Fox News and MSNBC are consistently the two-most-watched basic cable networks, but they, along with CNN, are losing viewers relative to 2018.”

“In prime time, Fox News was -8% in total viewers, MSNBC was -28% in total viewers, while CNN was -47% vs. the comparable week in 2018.

Like CNN, the Rachel Maddow Show, hosted by MSNBC, also suffered a massive ratings drop after the wind-down of Mueller probe.

CNN is currently ranked #15 among cable channels during prime time, according to data released by Nielsen, which shows that the network, interestingly enough, got beat out by the Hallmark Channel.

Some of the Hallmark Channel’s nightly programming includes original movies such as Bottled With Love, A Ring by Spring, and Campfire Kiss, but it’s actually not surprising that more Americans are switching over to the non-political flair of the Hallmark Channel after getting burnt out by the constant negativity of cable news.

During the day, however, CNN fares a bit better; it’s currently ranked at #9, although still behind the Hallmark Channel.

It appears like they might have a difficult time bouncing back after investing two years of heavy coverage on the investigation into the Trump campaign’s alleged collusion with the Kremlin,” reported the Daily Caller.

Virginia Kruta | Associate Editor

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler confirmed Sunday that Congress will continue to investigate President Donald Trump regardless of the conclusions reached by special counsel Robert Mueller.

“We know there was collusion,” Nadler insisted several times during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” with guest host Dana Bash. “Why there’s been no indictments, we don’t know.” (RELATED: Nadler Unleashes Massive Document Requests Into Threats Against Rule Of Law)

WATCH:

Nadler listed the Trump Tower meeting — which has been the subject of numerous false reports — and the way Trump “pressured the FBI to go easy, to stop investigating Flynn,” and Trump firing Comey as evidence of the alleged “collusion.”

Bash pointed out several times that none of that rose to the level of indictment from the Mueller team, but Nadler quickly shrugged it off.

“Well, there have been obstructions of justice, whether they are — clearly, whether they are criminal obstruction is another question,” Nadler explained. “But we have — the special prosecutor is limited in scope. His job was limited in scope and limited to crimes. What Congress has to do is look at a broader picture. We are in charge — we have the responsibility of protecting the rule of law, of looking at obstructions of justice, abuses of power, at corruption, in order to protect the rule of law so that our democratic institutions are not greatly damaged by this president.”

Nadler’s response made it clear that Congressional Democrats are likely moving forward with any number of investigations — in spite of warnings from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell regarding the possible consequences of “presidential harassment.”

Amber Athey and Mike Brest | Reporters

CNN pundits are admitting that Mueller’s final report vindicates President Donald Trump, undercutting the frenzied coverage the network has given the Russia investigation since its inception.

Special counsel Robert Mueller submitted his report on Russian collusion to Attorney General Bill Barr on Friday, finally wrapping up a 22-month investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. (RELATED: Mueller Submits Report To Justice Department)

While the contents of the report are not public, Mueller issued no additional indictments with the submission of his report.

CNN political analyst Gloria Borger admitted that the president is “vindicated” by the conclusion of the probe, but did so in a roundabout way, focusing on the political implications for the president’s past critiques of the Mueller team.

“So if, if as Jeffrey is saying, they get great news, the great news is, first of all, there’s no more indictments. But if suddenly the president has to say those angry Democrats who were working with Bob Mueller were actually just part of a Justice Department doing its job after he has criticized the Justice Department, then he’s now vindicated.”

WATCH:

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin agreed with Borger’s assessment that the report is good for Trump and many of his associates and family members.

“Let’s be specific. This is really good news for a lot of people around Donald Trump. Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Jerome Corsi, the writer who had a draft indictment presented to him by Mueller’s office and they decided not to go forward with this. Let’s be fair here. There has been a lot of suspicion around certain people. And a lot of negative things have been said and imputation of criminal activity. Mueller has said, ‘I am not proceeding.’ There is no better news to receive than you are not being indicted by the United States government.”

WATCH:

CNN justice reporter Evan Perez piled on the wave of admissions from pundits that Trump emerged from the Mueller investigation largely unscathed.

“After an investigation that has frankly clouded his administration since the beginning of his presidency. The president can begin to probably breathe a little easier that the idea that his vindication is coming. He knows that so far from the Mueller investigation, the public information that’s been released by Robert Mueller, there’s been nothing that comes close to what looks like collusion or conspiracy, which has been at the focus of this investigation, the idea that there was somebody in the president’s campaign who was colluding with the Russians.”

WATCH:

The lack of indictments related to Russian collusion is a striking blow for a news network that covered the investigation incessantly and even authored several false reports about it.

CNN reporter Maeve Reston admitted last January that Russia is “all we talk about at CNN,” and seemed surprised that average Americans were not as obsessed with the collusion narrative as journalists. In February 2018, chief international correspondent Matthew Chance went dumpster diving for collusion evidence in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The network, ever desperate to get the biggest scoop on the Russia probe, falsely claimed as far back as June 2016 that Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci was under investigation for alleged ties to Russia. In December 2017, CNN inaccurately said that Donald Trump Jr. had special access to Democratic documents stolen by WikiLeaks. (RELATED: The List Of CNN’s Bungled Reporting Is A Sight To Behold)

CNN tweeted Wednesday that founding father James Madison called the Electoral College “evil.”

Verdict: False

CNN took Madison’s quote out of context. The House of Representatives gets to choose the president if no candidates earn a majority of the vote in the Electoral College, and Madison was critical of this “back up” procedure, not the electoral system itself.

Fact Check:

Several Democratic candidates for president have discussed the idea of abolishing the Electoral College, which led CNN’s John Avlon to discuss the topic Wednesday on the network’s “Reality Check” segment.

Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren said at a CNN town hall in Mississippi that she wanted to make sure that “every vote matters.” “And the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting and that means get rid of the Electoral College,” she said.

Pete Buttigieg, the South Bend, Indiana, mayor who is running for president, said on “CBS This Morning” that “the Electoral College needs to go, because it’s made our society less and less democratic.” Other Democratic contenders like Sen. Kamala Harris and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke have suggested that they are open to eliminating the electoral system.

To introduce Avlon’s segment, CNN host Erica Hill teased that there was a man who “wore a wig and helped write the Constitution” who “really hated the Electoral College, probably even more than Elizabeth Warren.”

“Is this just a case of Dems trying to change the rules because they’ve won the popular vote but lost the presidency twice so far this century? Is this an insult to the founding fathers?” Avlon asked. “It was the subject of intense debate among the founders. The biggest controversy was the winner-take-all structure. James Madison, not a fan.”

Avlon then showed a quote from Madison that read, “At the present period, the evil is at its maximum.”

CNN clipped the segment and shared it on social media. “The electoral college has been debated since the days of James Madison, who called it ‘evil,’” it said on Facebook.

The quote comes from a letter Madison wrote about the Electoral College in 1823, but CNN took his remarks out of context. In reality, he wasn’t calling the system “evil.”

If none of the candidates running for president receive a majority of the vote in the Electoral College, the duty to elect the president falls to the House. This latter process is what Madison was criticizing. The comment was not an indictment of the electoral system itself, but rather a criticism of the “back up” measure put in place to elect the president.

Only two presidential elections have been decided in this way – the elections of 1800 and 1824.

“The ‘evil’ to which Madison referred in this context would rear its head only when presidential elections were decided in the House of Representatives, and not in the normal operations of the electoral college,” Angela Kreider of the Papers of James Madison project told The Daily Caller in an email.

When an election did go to the House, state delegations voted together, one vote per state, to pick a winner.

Even though Madison thought this process was “evil,” he thought that as states’ populations grew, as they have in the nearly two centuries since he penned the letter, the “evil” would be curbed.

“Specifically, Madison was concerned that when new states had small populations that qualified them for only one or two seats in the House, those representatives could be more easily corrupted in presidential balloting than larger groups of representatives from more populous states. He believed that this ‘evil’ would quickly diminish as the populations of new states rapidly increased,” Kreider said.

CNN’s incorrect use of this quote misrepresents Madison’s views on the Electoral College. According to the writings of Donald Dewey, the former associate editor of “The Papers of James Madison,” although Madison was in some ways critical of how the president was elected, he spent “as much effort in defending the electoral system provided in the Constitution as seeking improvements on it.”

Tara Ross, author of “The Indispensible Electoral College,” told the Caller that Madison was actually a member of the committee that drafted the language establishing the Electoral College. Although Madison at one point said that, in principle, “the people at large” are “fittest” to choose the president, he also later cautioned against direct elections, saying in an 1826 letter, “If the election be referred immediately to the people, however they may be liable to an excess of excitement on particular occasions.”

“It is true that Madison, like other members of the Constitutional Convention, considered the so-called Russian-style direct election, but like the others he ultimately rejected it as not consistent with the ideas of federalism set forth in the rest of the Constitution,” Professor Robert Hardaway of the University of Denver College of Law told the Caller in an email.

“Madison is not condemning the Electoral College in itself but merely supporting an improvement in the process by which it functions,” Fergus Bordewich, the author of “The First Congress: How James Madison, George Washington, and a Group of Extraordinary Men Invented the Government,” told the Caller in an email.

Madison supported the idea of having electors to the Electoral College selected on a district, not statewide, basis.

The Electoral College is established in Article II of the U.S. Constitution. Article II says that “each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress.”

In other words, the number of electors each state receives is equal to its two senators plus its representatives in the House, which vary by population size. The states with the most electoral votes currently are California (55), Texas (38), New York (29) and Florida (29).

CNN also failed to mention that Madison’s use of the word “evil” may not have meant what the network implied in the segment.

“It is also important to realize that the word ‘evil’ did not by any means always have the intense and absolute connotation then that it does today. In political writing, it mostly meant something closer to ‘deficit,’ ‘problem,’ or ‘shortcoming’ than it did something diabolical or truly awful. Its use by JM does not add up to a severe indictment of the system,” Bordewich told the Caller.

President Donald Trump was elected president in 2016 by the Electoral College (304 votes to Clinton’s 227) despite losing the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes. There have been five instances of the president winning the Electoral College and losing the popular vote – 1824, 1876, 1888, 2000 and 2016.

As mentioned by CNN in its segment, there is a movement to reform the electoral college called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. The group’s goal is to get states to agree to cast their electoral votes for whatever candidate wins the overall popular vote. While some states are on board with the agreement, it would not take effect until states comprising at least 270 electoral votes (the number required to win the Electoral College) were a part of the compact.

Neither Avlon nor CNN responded to a request for comment.

Instagram announced Thursday a mission to block all anti-vaccine hash tags and ads by labeling them “misinformation.”

Facebook (also the owner of Instagram) announced March 7 that due to complaints from users who had seen large amounts of anti-vaccine content, they would be taking steps to label this content as misinformation and thereby effectively hide it from public view.

Some health professionals have pushed for this move as well, citing research that shows the lack of correlation between vaccines and autism. These professionals worry that the misinformation on social media may lead people to resist vaccinations and thereby make themselves more vulnerable to illness. (RELATED: States Push For Laxer Vaccine Regulations Amid Worst Measles Outbreak In Years)

The Hill reported Thursday that “Facebook and Instagram’s search functions still recommend vaccine-related misinformation, including groups and hashtags that associate vaccinations with autism.”

A spokesperson from Instagram said that they are still working on hiding this content, and that immediate measures will include blocking anti-vaccine related hash tags including #vaccinescauseautism, #vaccinesarepoison and #vaccinescauseids.

“As part of our work to address health-related misinformation on Instagram, we’re looking at ways to minimize recommendations of this content and accounts that post it across Instagram,” the spokesperson said Thursday.

However, two weeks after Facebook promised to curb anti-vaccine related content, it remains as prominent as ever. “Vaccine” searches resulted in suggestions such as “vaccines and autism” and “vaccines revealed” which then led to results for “vaccine misinformation.”

A Thursday article in The Atlantic asserts that “Instagram Is the Internet’s New Home for Hate” and that social media sites should pay closer attention to misinformation on Instagram since it is the most popular outlet for young people.

CNN was bestowed the Cronkite Award for its “Parkland Town Hall” which resulted in NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch being escorted off the premises after attendees berated and tried to assault her.

The University of Southern California held the 10th biennial Walter Cronkite Awards for Excellence in Television Political Journalism on Wednesday, honoring CNN for its Parkland Town Hall last year for “helping advance the national conversation on gun control and violence.”

Loesch attended the event to defend the Second Amendment following the left’s calls for gun control over the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida, but the audience ended up hurling insults and threats of violence against her.

“Is this a joke? Seriously,” she tweeted Tuesday, before releasing several video clips of the event while it wasn’t televised.

“Here is some footage where people were yelling to burn me at CNN’s award-winning townhall where they ‘advanced the conversation on gun control,’” she said.

“Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you!” the audience chanted as Loesch was escorted from the event.

Some conversation.

Here’s more of the “conversation.”

“This is what happened when the cameras turned off at @CNNPR ’s award-winning townhall. They’re proud of it,” Loesch continued.

In the mainstream media bizarro world, CNN is given awards for “advancing the conversation on gun control and violence” for hosting an event that demonizes the Second Amendment and threatens violence against detractors.

Even CNN CEO Jeff Zucker was given a First Amendment award after lobbying to censor his competition online.

Many Latinos living in South Texas not only support President Trump’s wall, but want it to stretch taller and farther, according to a CNN report uncharacteristic of the fake news network.

In a piece aired Monday on CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront, reporter Miguel Marquez was in disbelief as he spoke to Hispanic Americans residing in the Rio Grande Valley about their support for the president and his plans to stymie illegal immigration.

Watch the report:

“You want to see this not only taller, but longer?” Marquez asked lifetime McAllen resident Rolando Martinez, as he reported from a physical barrier separating Texas from Mexico.

“Longer and taller, yes,” responded Martinez, pointing to the top of a tall bollard-style fence.

“How much taller?” the CNN reporter asked.

“Twice,” Martinez said, “twice as much at least.”

“And you want the whole border? 2600 miles?”

“Yes, 2600 miles, yes sir,” Martinez confirmed, adding, “I don’t think the wall is gonna be a barrier for the good people, it will be a barrier for the bad people.”

Mayra Gutierrez, a member of Latinos for Trump who came to the US from Mexico when she was three, told the network she’s currently working on getting her citizenship – so she can vote for Trump in 2020.

For Gutierrez, abortion, the economy and illegal immigration are the main issues she’d like Trump to tackle.

“We do have a lot of problems here [in the Rio Grande Valley] with immigration, and I do support his stance for the wall.”

The president of Hidalgo County Young Republicans, Joacim Hernandez, said the group’s membership has more than doubled in the past year, as CNN’s Marquez appeared incredulous.

“How difficult a sell is it to young Republicans, to young people, to Latinos in this area to support the Republican party and the president?” Marquez asked.

“I’m actually quite shocked because the last time the president visited the Valley there was a lot of people out there supporting him,” Hernandez said, predicting Trump will win re-election in 2020.

While a majority of Latinos still oppose the president, CNN’s interviews with various Valley residents help bolster Trump’s campaign rally rhetoric asserting a large number of Hispanics support his agenda and want a safer, more secure border.

The hypocrisy of CNN chief Jeff Zucker being bestowed with a trophy for ‘protecting’ free speech after his network aggressively lobbied for the deplatforming of Alex Jones and Infowars was not lost on Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Carlson blasted the spectacle of Zucker’s prizewinning at the Radio Television Digital News Foundation’s First Amendment Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

“Whatever you think of Jeff Zucker, he is not encumbered by shame,” Carlson said. “Keep in mind that it was his network, CNN, that argued in public that Fox News should not be allowed to ask any questions of the candidates in the Democratic primary debates — that just happened.”

“It was also CNN that demanded radio show host Alex Jones be silenced because Jeff Zucker didn’t like what he was saying.”

“CNN waged a long campaign against Jones; it worked. Jeff Zucker silenced and deplatformed his show,” Carlson continued. “It was a stunning defeat for free speech. So naturally, Jeff Zucker just won the First Amendment award.”

Deadline Hollywood described the awards dinner as a “Trump-trashing” bonanza, with mainstream media operatives accusing President Trump of endangering the lives of the press.

Zucker said the President’s administration “quite literally… put our lives at risk with their words and their actions,” and also, “does not tolerate a free and independent press.”

CNN contributor Carl Bernstein introduced Zucker, saying, “We’re here tonight at a deadly serious moment even as we celebrate.”

“I don’t know of a moment that’s more perilous for the country, for reporting, for the truth and for the First Amendment.”
