CNN political contributor Paul Begala likened Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump to cockroaches Tuesday, during a segment on “The Lead with Jake Tapper.”

The panel was discussing HuffPost editor Vicky Ward’s new book “Kushner Inc.” in which she alleges that President Donald Trump was looking for ways to get rid of Ivanka and Jared because they were a source of constant negative press.

WATCH:

“The president, according to this book, was frustrated with Ivanka and Jared because they’ve generated bad press,” Tapper began. “He devised a plan with his then-Chief of Staff John Kelly to make life tough for them, so that they would go back to New York City. Regardless, Jared and Ivanka, on the facts — forget the book for a second — they have outlasted everybody.”

“I do find this fictional,” Urban stated. “There’s a lot of books that are written that you see. No grains of truth in some of them. I think this — imagining the president telling John Kelly, ‘Let’s get rid of my kids, send them back to New York,’ — I have been around the president and Jared and Ivanka, and I can tell you that’s pure fiction and not believable whatsoever.”

“What do you take from this book? Is it a sign that loyalty is preeminent with Trump?” Tapper followed up.

“I don’t think so,” Begala answered. “No, I think mediocrity is. When you’re too mediocre for even Donald Trump, you’ve really got a problem. Of course they survived. Cockroaches are going to survive nuclear war.”

“You’re not calling Ivanka and Jared cockroaches,” Tapper responded. (RELATED: Ivanka Turns Heads In Yellow And Black Floral Dress During Munich Trip)

“No. No. I’m talking about a separate class of species. When they took this job, I thought it was an enormous mistake. I don’t believe in criticizing politicians families. They are no longer family,” Begala added. “They’re government officials, they work for me. So we should hold them to a high standard.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders previously told The Daily Caller, in response to Ward’s book:

It’s sad, but not surprising, the media would spend time promoting a book based on shady anonymous sources and false information instead of all the incredible work Jared and Ivanka are doing for the country. The author, on her own website, listed this book in the category of ‘fiction’ – until recently changing it. Her initial representation was accurate.

President Donald Trump instructed Chief of Staff John Kelly to fire his daughter and son-in-law from their White House positions, according to new book.

HuffPost editor Vicky Ward alleges in “Kushner Inc.” that the president was looking for ways to rid the White House of his daughter, Ivanka Trump, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner because they were a source of constant negative press. When Trump selected Gen. Kelly to be his chief of staff in July, one of his first directives was for Kelly to fire his children.

“Get rid of my kids; get them back to New York,” Trump allegedly told Kelly.

Trump also reportedly complained that his children “didn’t know how to play the game,” referring to their seeming inability to generate positive media coverage for the administration.

According to Ward, Kelly informed Trump that it would be difficult to fire his own children, so the pair agreed they would make life so difficult for Ivanka and Kushner in the White House that the couple would be forced to resign.

Kelly instead announced his own resignation in December before the alleged plan could succeed. (RELATED: Trump Says John Kelly Is Leaving The White House)

Both children currently serve as advisers to Trump, and Kushner has been tasked with diplomacy in the Middle East, while Ivanka Trump has focused on advancing paid family leave policies. Ivanka has been credited for spearheading programs that aim to “empower women in the workplace,” while her husband has been involved in the administration’s criminal justice reform measures.

The Kushner camp has pushed back on Ward’s book, calling it a piece of “fiction.”

“It seems she has written a book of fiction rather than any serious attempt to get the facts,” a spokesman for Kushner said. “Correcting everything wrong would take too long and be pointless.”

First daughter Ivanka Trump announced a new initiative Monday in the White House’s proposed budget for the 2020 fiscal year.

Trump announced that the proposed budget will include increased spending on child care and block grants, a paid family leave proposal and more. (RELATED: Ivanka Turns Heads In Yellow And Black Floral Dress During Munich Trip)

“From 2x the Child Tax Credit and Child Care and Development Block Grants to adding the [first] national Paid Family Leave proposal included in any POTUS budget, to this major new investment in childcare affordability, we continue to fulfill our pledge to American working families!” Ivanka said on Twitter Monday.

In his proposed budget, President Trump will ask Congress for $5.3 billion for the Child Care and Development Block Grant to fund the new proposal. He will also seek a one-time payment of $1 billion for the program aimed at increasing child care in lower-class areas as part of the same grant.

Ivanka has championed paid family leave proposals throughout her father’s presidency and has been making the rounds on Capitol Hill over the past two years in an attempt to get skeptical conservative Republicans on board. (RELATED: Ivanka Trump Accuses Yahoo Of Misleading Headline About Minimum Wage)

The president’s budget states that the White House “looks forward to working with the Congress to advance policies that would make paid parental leave a reality for families across the nation” and includes a quote from Ivanka where she praises the importance of paid family leave from July 2018.

“Paid family leave enable parents to balance the competing demands of work and family, pursue their careers, and build strong and thriving families,” Ivanka said. “It is an investment in the future of our workers, our families, and our country.”

As recently as last month, Ivanka tweeted about her continued support for pro-family policies, and touted her work on increasing the Child Tax Credit from $1,000 to $2,000 as part of the 2017 “Tax Cut and Jobs Act.”

“I’ve spent much of the last [two] years focused on inclusive economic growth via workforce development and skills training as well as pro-working family policies such as the doubled Child Tax Credit & CCDBG,” she tweeted.

The paid family leave plan is part of an ambitious 2020 budget released by the White House that aims to fund the completion of a wall at the southern border while cutting overall spending in order to balance the budget in the near future.

First daughter and presidential adviser Ivanka Trump criticized Yahoo on Wednesday for a headline suggesting that she does not support a minimum wage.

Yahoo published a story claiming that Trump challenged “Ocasio-Cortez’s minimum wage platform” by saying “people want to work for what they get.”

“No I did not,” Trump tweeted in response. “I do not however believe in a minimum wage guarantee for people ‘unwilling to work’ which was the question asked of me.”

In a preview of an interview with Fox News host Steve Hilton set to air Sunday, Trump specifically attacked a proposal laid out in a FAQ sheet on New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal that guarantees a living wage for people “unwilling to work.” (RELATED: Ivanka Trump Rips Into Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal)

“So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want,” Trump explained. “They want the ability to be able to secure a job. They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.”

In response to the misleading Yahoo article, Trump also touted her work on “economic growth via workforce development and skills training.” Trump has also been a staunch proponent of paid family leave policies.

First daughter and senior White House adviser Ivanka Trump tore into New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal,” in an interview with Fox News’ Steve Hilton that will air Sunday.

“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something,” Trump said. “I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last four years. People want to work for what they get.”

WATCH:

When prodded by Hilton about her thoughts on the sweeping resolution, which seeks to combat climate change through measures such as investing in high-speed rail and upgrading every building, Trump said:

“So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. They want the ability to be able to secure a job. They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.”

For Trump, this was a rare display of confrontation aimed squarely at progressive Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez. Unlike her father and brothers, the first daughter has largely eschewed contentious policy matters to date, instead choosing to focus her energies on bipartisan areas like women’s economic empowerment and criminal justice reform.

Trump, alongside her husband, Jared Kushner, who also serves as senior adviser to the president, has garnered a reputation as someone willing to reach across the aisle.

These attributes were credited for the successful passage of the First Step Act late in 2018, which was the most comprehensive criminal justice reform bill passed by Congress in decades. The bill works to achieve prison reform by lowering rates of recidivism. (RELATED: Senate Passes Trump-Backed Criminal Justice Reform Bill)

In addition to these accomplishments, Trump has been a strong advocate of her father’s work on the economy. She resolutely hit on this theme in her interview with Hilton.

“I think fundamentally if you ask yourself the question, ‘Are we better today than we were yesterday or we were two years ago?’ the answer is, undoubtedly, yes,” Trump said, hitting on a favorite policy point of President Donald Trump at rallies.

“So, as an American, families sitting down and thinking about their financial situation relative to a month ago or a year ago, America is doing very well and it stands in quite sharp contrast to the rest of the world,” she added. “So, not only are we doing well, much of the world has slowed down in terms of the pace of their growth.”

The complete interview can be seen Sunday on “The Next Revolution” at 9 p.m. Eastern time on Fox News.

“Historic low unemployment rates have created opportunity for millions of Americans. A record 73% of people who previously were out of work and not looking for a job, came OFF of the sidelines and into the workforce in Q4 2018. This is the highest share of people entering our labor force from the sidelines EVER,” the first daughter captioned her post.

“Today we met with the Nation’s Governors to discuss how we can work together to ensure all students + workers have the skills needed to fill the 7.3 million job openings! #NGA #WorkforceDevelopment,” she added.

Her fashion sense is always terrific and has been documented numerous times. Check out some of those unforgettable looks here.
