Russia Refuses to Destroy Missiles After “Groundless” US Request

Russia will not destroy its 9M729 missile complexes, which the US claims to be violating the terms of the INF Treaty, the country’s Foreign Ministry has announced.

“We cannot go for destroying our 9M729 missile that Washington groundlessly believes to violate the treaty,” the ministry said in a statement. It added that the US side didn’t show “any readiness for dialogue,” but had become “fixated on the unacceptable ultimatum” for Russia.

In February, the US announced its unilateral withdrawal from the INF Treaty. It claimed that Russia’s testing of the 9M729 missile breached the terms of the landmark 1987 deal, which bans ground-based missiles with a range of between 500km and 5,500km. In response, Russia also suspended the country’s participation in the treaty.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry reiterated that the US was actively developing medium-range missile systems. The US abandoning the treaty opens the possibility of deploying these missiles in Europe. “We have to prepare ourselves for Washington’s potential deployment of these systems,” the statement read.

The ministry said that it would not “knock on a closed door” after Moscow’s attempts to save the INF Treaty were brushed aside by Washington, adding that the settlement proposals remain on the table. The INF Treaty is set to expire on August 2. If it is not renewed, it will seize to exist.

US Warns Italy Not to Join China

The U.S. National Security Council issued a direct warning to Italy last weekend for its coziness with China.

The country has been considering participating in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), where one segment of the global economic effort aims to unite Europe with China.

“Italy is a major global economy and a great investment destination. Endorsing BRI lends legitimacy to China’s predatory approach to investment and will bring no benefits to the Italian people,” tweeted the US National Security Council.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte believes otherwise. Conte has overruled the foreign ministry and joined right-wing Eurosceptics in his push for closer cooperation with China.

“With all the necessary precautions, Italy’s accession to a new silk route represents an opportunity for our country,” Conte said Friday.

China is being used by the globalists to beta test tyranny and authoritarian policies like censorship and population control. Alex Jones exposes the left’s obsession with domination over those they disagree with.

President Xi Jinping is expected to travel to Italy from March 22-24, and Conte said Rome and Beijing are expected to agree to a framework deal during the state visit. Conte also announced his plan to attend an upcoming BRI summit in China.

The Italian leader’s plan to attend a BRI summit in Beijing next month has caused panic in Brussels and Washington, as Italy is on course to become the first G7 country to gravitate to China’s trade initiative that US and EU officials have intensely criticized.

“Italian governments have always had a keen eye on the belt and road, as the attention with which the current administration follows developments is largely inherited from the previous governments,” said Giovanni Andornino, a China expert based at the University of Torino in northern Italy.

“What is different now is that this government is much happier in having interaction with China, as opposed to being a driving force in the process of the EU-wide negotiation with China,” Andornino said.

Wang Yiwei, director of the Centre for EU Studies at the Renmin University of China, said Rome’s resistance against Washington and Brussels stemmed from the Eurosceptic roots of its populist government.

“The current Italian government has always opposed the European Union, so they are less prejudiced against [China’s initiative] than the traditional political parties in Europe,” said Wang, who was a diplomat at the Chinese mission to the European Union from 2008 to 2011.”

Turkey Defies US, Keeps Russian Missile Defense Tech – Report

The US has actively been trying to derail the 2017 deal between Turkey and Russia on S-400 supplies, including by offering to sell American Patriot systems to the country instead. So far, Ankara has given a deaf ear to the proposals.

Turkey is not planning to resell Russian S-400s, Ömer Çelik, a spokesman for the governing Justice and Development (AK) Party assured, following statements that the US had crossed the line with its statements regarding Ankara’s acquisition of the Russian missile defense systems.

“These systems are made in Russia. We are buying them and are not intending to resell them to another country. We have paid for two S-400s and are awaiting their supplies in July”, he said.

The desire to buy Russian S-400 systems led to a worsening in US-Turkey relations. Washington fears the system will expose weaknesses of the F-35 and that it would be incompatible with NATO defenses. The US urged Ankara to drop the contract, offering Patriot systems instead and threatening to halt the delivery of F-35s.

The authoritarian establishment media is now openly reporting anyone who disagrees with them to front organizations of the military industrial complex, NATO & the Democrat Party for censorship.

Turkey slammed Washington’s threats and stated that the S-400 poses no threat to the F-35 as they will be operated by the Turkish military. Ankara reportedly offered to let Washington study the Russian systems when they arrive, but this was officially denied by Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar.

Earlier, the US Defence Department threatened that if Turkey does acquire Russian S-400 systems, Washington would be forced to cut its military relationship with Ankara and not deliver F-35s and Patriots.

At the same time, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the S-400 deal with Russia and added that the acquisition of advanced S-500 systems from Russia is also on the table.

U.S. Warns Germany To Drop Huawei Or Risk Losing Intelligence Sharing

Following intense pressure from the US on its European allies to boycott the use of Huawei products in the rollout of next-generation 5G products and shut out the Chinese telecom giant from local markets, Germany was the first nation to rebuke Washington, with Handeslblatt reportingone months ago that the German government wanted to avoid excluding products offered by Huawei.

Then it was the UK’s turn, and as we reported three weeks ago, in the latest “serious blow” to US efforts to persuade allies to ban the Chinese supplier from high-speed telecommunications systems, the FT reported that the British government has concluded that it can “mitigate the risk from using Huawei equipment in 5G networks.” The UK National Cyber Security Centre had reportedly determined that “there are ways to limit the risks from using Huawei in future 5G ultra-fast networks” and in doing so it was ignoring escalating US efforts to persuade countries to bar Huawei from their networks on the basis that it could help China conduct espionage or cyber sabotage.

Now, it is the US’ turn to respond to these “insurgencies” by western ally nations, and as the WSJ reports, the Trump administration has told the German government it would limit the intelligence it shares with German security agencies if Berlin allows Huawei to build Germany’s next-generation mobile-internet infrastructure.

Needless to say, the warning is “likely to cause alarm among German security circles” amid persistent terror threat, largely the result of Merkel’s disastrous “Open Door” policies which allowed over 1 million middle eastern immigrants into he country.

Citing a letter dated Friday from U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard A. Grenell and addressed to Germany’s economics minister, the US diplomat said that the U.S. “wouldn’t be able to keep intelligence and other information sharing at their current level if Germany allowed Huawei or other Chinese vendors to participate in building the country’s 5G network.”

This, as the WSJ notes, marks the first time the U.S. has explicitly warned its allies that refusing to ostracize Huawei could have consequences on these countries’ security cooperation with Washington. European security agencies have relied heavily on U.S. intelligence in the fight against terrorism for instance.

And now the ball is in Europe’s court, which unless it wants to engage in intelligence-sharing with Moscow and Beijing, will find itself very hard pressed to ignore the latest gambit by the Trump admin. It will be just as interesting to watch how Europe seeks to de-escalate the tensions over the treatment of Huawei when both the UK and Germany already made it clear they will not be dictated to by the US.

Guaido vows to return soon to Venezuela to lead protests

CARACAS, Venezuela – Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido says he’ll soon return home and mobilize new protests against embattled socialist leader Nicolas Maduro.

Guaido spoke from Colombia on Tuesday after meeting with regional diplomats and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.

He says that in the coming days he will announce the date of his return as well as actions aimed at galvanizing support among Venezuela’s military and state workers.

Guaido has won recognition as Venezuela’s rightful leader from more than 50 nations, including the United States, but has so far been unable to wrest power from Maduro.

Over the weekend, the opposition failed in its attempt to deliver several hundred tons of U.S.-supplied humanitarian aid after security forces loyal to Maduro fired tear gas at protesters. Four people were killed.

Video shows jailer kneeing, punching handcuffed black man

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Newly released video shows a Minnesota jail officer punching and kneeing a handcuffed black man, prompting the county board to vow Tuesday to do whatever is necessary to prevent it from happening again.

Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher on Monday released video of the 2016 incident, which happened before his term. In a statement, Fletcher called the video "extremely disturbing," and said he is making changes.

"The conduct captured on the video will not be tolerated under my watch," the sheriff said.

Travis VanDeWiele pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct last month and has resigned. VanDeWiele had been a Ramsey County sheriff’s correctional officer since 2014. He has been on paid administrative leave for the last two years.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter said the video shows "torture."

"We can’t separate the individual actions from the law enforcement culture that allowed him to feel like it was OK to do that and that allowed several deputies to stand around and watch it take place," Carter said.

County commissioners said Tuesday they’ll do whatever it takes to prevent a recurrence.

"We do take this seriously — very seriously — and need to do everything that we can to correct this to make sure something like this does not happen again," Commissioner Victoria Reinhardt said.

UNITED NATIONS – U.S. envoy Elliott Abrams says the Trump administration will seek a U.N. Security Council vote this week on a resolution calling for Venezuela’s government to let in humanitarian aid and to hold free elections.

Speaking to reporters ahead of a council meeting called by the U.S., Abrams said Tuesday that socialist President Nicolas Maduro "has destroyed the economy of Venezuela and prevented humanitarian aid from arriving."

Abrams says that "the solution to the humanitarian situation is to get a government that works for rather than against the people of Venezuela."

Russia has accused the U.S. of interfering in Venezuela’s affairs, and Abrams declines to predict whether Moscow will veto the resolution. But he says "it would be shameful to veto a resolution that calls for humanitarian aid."

NEW YORK – A crowd has marked the anniversary of the 1993 bombing at the old World Trade Center that foreshadowed 9/11.

A bell tolled at the Sept. 11 memorial plaza on Tuesday to mark the midday moment when a truck bomb exploded in an underground garage 26 years ago.

Six people died, one of them pregnant. Relatives read their names.

More than 1,000 people were injured.

Authorities say the bomb was set by Muslim extremists angry about U.S. policies in the Mideast.

Six suspects were convicted and imprisoned. A seventh remains at large.

Former trade center director Charles Maikish (MAY’-kihsh) told Tuesday’s crowd the 1993 bombing was "a lesson, hard-learned, and a wake-up call."

He credited subsequent safety upgrades with speeding the twin towers’ evacuation on Sept. 11, 2001.

Venezuelans becoming a growing political and cultural force in South Florida

MIAMI –– When Vice President Pence visited here recently, he didn’t go straight to Little Havana for cafecito at Versailles, a traditional stop for politicians. Instead, he visited a church in Doral, a suburban community home to one of the city’s fastest-growing immigrant groups.

As Venezuelans have fled their country in staggering numbers, many have resettled in South Florida, becoming a growing cultural and political force in an area that for years has largely been dominated by Cubans.

Miami now has the largest Venezuelan ex-pat community in the United States, and they have altered the landscape in a city that already has a melting pot of immigrants. That dynamic is reshaping Miami politics and becoming a growing influence in both Washington and Caracas.

“The South Florida Venezuelans are the politically influential portions of the population now. They are the ones that are going to be involved in regime change and rebuilding Venezuela,” Touchton said.

Doral, the heart of the Venezuelan community, is west of Miami and is bustling with Venezuelan culture. At one popular restaurant, El Arepaso, a large Venezuelan flag flutters on the roof. It’s just one of many businesses that many Venezuelan-Americans said makes them feel like they are home.

Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez, who is Cuban-American, said the Venezuelan community has become a force in South Florida – and could one day hold as much sway politically in the region as Cubans do in Miami.

“While the Cuban population may be larger than the Venezuelan population, I think that is something that you will see, if the situation does not get addressed, we will continue to see more and more exiles here from Venezuela,” Nunez said.

Much like the Puerto Ricans in Orlando, Venezuelans are attracting the attention of both political parties and candidates hoping to court them. Republicans, particularly, have blamed the political crisis in Venezuela on socialism, using it as an example of what happens when a far left-leaning regime is in power.

The Trump administration has been vocal in condemning Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and urging him to step aside. Trump visited Miami last week and gave a rousing anti-socialism speech, saying what happened in Miami "will never happen to us."

“The days of socialism and communism are numbered,” Trump said. “Not only in Venezuela but in Nicaragua and in Cuba, as well.”

Democratic leaders and 2020 candidates recently began calling attention to the issue, with Sens. Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders calling for free elections and humanitarian aid to be allowed in Venezuela. But some Venezuelans have questioned whether the criticism goes far enough.

In a state where major elections are often decided by a handful of votes, University of Miami political science professor Michael Touchton said Venezuelans in Miami could sway future elections.

It’s still unclear whether the Venezuelan crisis will draw the community to the Republican Party like the Cuban missile crisis prompted many Cubans to shift right.

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and top Senate Democrats are working together on legislation that would allow Venezuelans to stay in the U.S. with temporary protection from work permits and deportation. Rubio’s Democratic colleague, New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, said in a statement, "providing temporary protected status for eligible individuals … is the humanitarian and morally responsible thing to do."

Rubio said granting temporary protected status would provide a solution to Venezuelans who fear returning home.

Touchton, the political science professor, said the issue has political implications.

“If regime change occurs in Venezuela, while Trump is in office, he will benefit politically, and Republicans will benefit politically, from those votes in South Florida,” he said.

Pence on Monday went to Colombia to speak with leaders and rally the international community behind opposition leader Juan Guaidó. The vice president announced that the United States will provide an additional $56 million in aid to Venezuela.

"The struggle in Venezuela is between dictatorship and democracy," Pence said.

Blanco Luis, a Venezuelan immigrant living in Miami, said he’s keeping a close eye on what happens in his home country.

“I am really sad about the people over there. I have a lot of family over there, they don’t have any food. No jobs, no transportation, no medicine,” Luis said.

Stephany Melchor moved to Miami in 2016, leaving her family to pursue a future she could never have back home. “I decided to come here. I had the support of my two brothers and I started over,” she said.

Melchor says many Venezuelans are grateful the United States stepped up to intervene amid the political crisis.

Zookeeper seriously injured when rhino strikes her

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A female zookeeper in Florida was seriously injured when a rhinoceros struck her.

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens Executive Director Tony Vecchio says the zookeeper was hurt by the rhino’s horn during a "routine training session" Tuesday morning.

Tom Francis with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department says she was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. News outlets report that her condition wasn’t immediately known.

Vecchio says the rhino, 50-year-old Archie, remained in his enclosure the entire time and the public was never in danger. He says zookeepers conduct routine training with the animals to prepare them for medical exams.

Zoo officials say they’ll do a full investigation of the incident and act on safety recommendations.
