A top Justice Department official had “continued concerns” about the “possible bias” of an FBI source used to obtain surveillance warrants against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
That’s according to text messages former FBI lawyer Lisa Page and her boss, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, exchanged Oct. 12, 2016.
Nine days after the exchange, which Fox News first reported, the FBI successfully obtained the first of four Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants against Carter Page. The bureau relied heavily on unverified information from a confidential informant, Christopher Steele, to obtain the warrants.
In the texts, Lisa Page suggested Stuart Evans, the head of the Justice Department’s Office of Intelligence, had concerns about the bias of a confidential human source (CHS) used for the FISA application, which she refers to as “the package.” (RELATED: FBI Had Only ‘Medium Confidence’ In Steele Dossier)
“[Office of Intelligence] now has a robust explanation re any possible bias of the chs in the package,” Lisa Page wrote McCabe.
“Don’t know what the holdup is now, other than Stu’s continued concerns. Strong operational need to have in place before Monday if at all possible, which means to ct [sic] tomorrow,” she continued.
As head of the Office of Intelligence, Evans was in charge of handling FISA applications for the Justice Department.

Steele, a former MI6 officer, compiled a series of memos about then-candidate Donald Trump and his campaign associates on behalf of Fusion GPS, an opposition research firm that worked in 2016 for the Clinton campaign and DNC.
Republican lawmakers have accused the FBI of failing to provide all of the details about Steele and Fusion GPS to the FISA Court judges who approved the Carter Page warrants. Democrats’ funding for the dossier is not addressed in the FISA applications. Steele’s comments to Justice Department official Bruce Ohr that he was “desperate” to see Trump lose the election are also not included in the applications.
Republicans have also asserted the FBI had not verified Steele’s claims about Carter Page before using the information in the FISA applications.
Ohr told Congress in an Aug. 28, 2018, interview that he told the FBI at least a month before the FISA applications were submitted about Steele’s comments on Trump.
He said he informed the FBI because Steele’s bias could affect his credibility as an FBI informant.
“So there’s a possibility of bias, and that would affect the credibility of this confidential human source or the information you got from them?” Republican North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows asked Ohr.
“Yes,” replied Ohr, whose wife worked as a contractor for Fusion GPS.
“I provided information to the FBI when I thought Christopher Steele was, as I said, desperate that Trump not be elected. So, yes, of course, I provided that to the FBI,” Ohr added.
In her texts with McCabe, Lisa Page suggested the bureau would have to exert pressure on DOJ’s Evans to push through the Carter Page FISA application.
“I communicated you and boss’s green light to Stu earlier, and just sent an email to Stu asking where things stood. This might take a high-level push,” she wrote.
Carter Page, an energy consultant, has vehemently denied the allegations about him found in the Steele dossier. In the report, Steele alleges Page was the Trump campaign’s liaison to the Kremlin, that he came up with the idea to release DNC emails through WikiLeaks, and that he offered to relax sanctions against Russia in exchange for a brokerage stake in a multi-billion dollar deal involving Rosneft, the Russian oil giant.
Page, who has testified before special counsel Robert Mueller’s grand jury, has not been accused of any crimes.

Twitter has admitted to shadowbanning a tweet by The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis in order to “keep people safe.”
Tweeting a passage last week from former FBI attorney Lisa Page’s Congressional testimony discussing the FBI’s rush to find connections between the Trump campaign and Russia, Davis pointed out the irony of Hillary Clinton’s campaign employing former UK spy Christopher Steele, a foreign national, “working with Russians to obtain damaging information about Donald Trump.”
Of note, the dossier Steele compiled which was subsequently used to obtain a warrant to spy on a Trump adviser (and later smear Trump) relied on a “senior Russian Foreign Ministry figure” and “a former top level intelligence officer still active in the Kremlin,” according to Vanity Fair.
Following his March 12 tweet, Davis wondered if Twitter was experimenting with “shadow bans” – as he could only see his tweet if he was logged in, meaning nobody else could see it.

Six days later, Twitter confirmed with Davis that they had deliberately shadow-banned his tweet in order to “keep people safe.”

“Twitter gave me no notice or explanation when it shadowbanned one of my Tweets about Russian interference in our elections,” wrote Davis, adding “But what’s worse is how Twitter apparently gives its users the fraudulent impression that their tweets, which Twitter secretly bans, are still public.”

In short, Twitter did not want the public to consider the irony of Hillary Clinton’s campaign paying for a foreign national to collude with Russians against Donald Trump, while the FBI scrambled to prove the Trump campaign did.

Fired FBI lawyer Lisa Page confirmed in recently released transcripts that the Russia investigation was “fake” and “anti-Trump insurance policy” against the president, according to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

For example, Page revealed that the FBI was indeed inclined to indict Hillary Clinton with “gross negligence” over the handling of her secret servers, but the Department of Justice ordered the Bureau not to pursue charges.
This is consistent with 2016 reports that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who headed the DOJ, may have struck a deal with Hillary’s husband Bill Clinton in a secret tarmac meeting just days before former FBI Director James Comey announced his decision not to charge her.
Additionally, Page claims her lover, FBI special agent Peter Strzok helped launch the investigation with impeachment of Trump and a promotion for himself as the end goal.
Strzok was hesitant to enter Special Counsel Mueller’s probe because he worried it may not end with impeachment, which could have hampered his “long-term prospects,” Page said.
She said Strzok told her, “If this is going to fizzle out and be nothing, then I shouldn’t sort of sacrifice my sort of long-term career prospects. If it’s going to end in impeachment, that’s kind of a big deal. I mean, put aside who it is, put aside how we feel about it. You know, that’s monumental.”

President Donald Trump sent out a tweet on Wednesday following the release a day before by House Judiciary Committee Republicans of hundreds of pages of transcripts from last year's closed-door interview with ex-FBI attorney Lisa Page.
"The just revealed FBI Agent Lisa Page transcripts make the Obama Justice Department look exactly like it was, a broken and corrupt machine," Trump wrote. "Hopefully, justice will finally be served."
The president added in a later tweet:
"Comey testified (under oath) that it was a 'unanimous' decision on Crooked Hillary. Lisa Page transcripts show he LIED."
Tuesday's release of the transcripts revealed new details about the FBI's controversial internal discussions regarding an "insurance policy" against then-candidate Trump, according to Fox News.
Page told the committee the text message about an "insurance policy" if Trump won the 2016 election – which Republicans have used to claim an anti-Trump bias among the investigators – was referring to the fact the FBI's counterintelligence probe into whether members of Trump's team were colluding with Russia would become much more important if he was elected president, according to CNN.
"If he is not elected, then, to the extent that the Russians were colluding with members of his team, we're still going to investigate that even without him being president, because any time the Russians do anything with a U.S. person . . . it's very serious to us," Page said.
"But if he becomes president, that totally changes the game," she explained. "He's going to immediately start receiving classified briefings. He's going to be exposed to the most sensitive secrets imaginable. And if there is somebody on his team who wittingly or unwittingly is working with the Russians, that is super serious."

Former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe said Sunday said he felt he wasn’t going to be in the job “for very long” after James Comey was fired as director in May 2017.
In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” McCabe was pressed on a text between anti-President Donald Trump FBI staffers Lisa Page and Peter Strzok in which they they wrote of the “need to open the case we've been waiting on now while Andy is acting” FBI director.
“I can't tell you what Lisa and Pete were referring to in their private texts,” McCabe replied. “I think I've been very clear publicly about how the investigators felt about the work that we needed to do in May of 2017 after Director Comey was fired. They made a recommendation to me that we open cases. I acted on that recommendation.
“I was feeling, I felt very strongly at that time that I needed to make those decisions quickly because I anticipated I would not be in the acting role for very long and I didn't know who would be coming in behind me or how they would handle the ongoing investigation that we thought was important to conclude,” he said.
McCabe also was quizzed on what the pair meant when they wrote in 2016 of an “insurance policy” against Trump’s election.
“Lisa Page, Pete Strzok and I and many other members of that investigative team met in my office, in conference rooms around FBI headquarters all the time,” McCabe said.
“I can't sit here and tell you years later the circumstances of exactly that instance that they seem to be referring to in that text. I also wasn't a participant in that text, so I can't add too much more to your understanding of it.”
Strzok has denied any plot behind his texts with Page, and McCabe said “I take him at his word for that description.”
