Early livestream videos that broadcast the devastating fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris were flagged for misinformation and showed viewers an article about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

BuzzFeed News reported Monday, as live footage of the fire first spread, YouTube’s automated systems recognized the live-streams as some sort of misinformation. That triggered a new feature on videos that tries to tamp down false reporting by showing facts.

In the case of the cathedral fire, an Encyclopedia Britannica article called “September 11 attacks” appeared in a grey bar underneath the video player. A snippet of the article was visible, along with a link to read the full text.

BuzzFeed claimed to have discovered at least three livestreams of the fire posted by major news outlets containing the disclaimer. YouTube was made aware of the abnormality and removed the alerts.

“These panels are triggered algorithmically and our systems sometimes make the wrong call,” a YouTube spokesperson told BuzzFeed. “We are disabling these panels for livestreams related to the fire.”

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire at the cathedral, which was completed in 1345 after nearly 200 years of construction. It has been added to and renovated several times over the years.

More recently, a project was underway to shore up the cathedral’s roof. The fire caused the main spire and the roof to collapse, which left the intricate metal scaffolding standing in the middle.

As the fire continued to burn, however, the scaffolding appeared to be collapsing in itself.

Researchers from NASA and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, report that streams of meteoroids striking the Moon infuse the thin lunar atmosphere with a short-lived water vapor.

The findings will help scientists understand the history of lunar water — a potential resource for sustaining long term operations on the Moon and human exploration of deep space. Models had predicted that meteoroid impacts could release water from the Moon as a vapor, but scientists hadn’t yet observed the phenomenon.

Now, the team has found dozens of these events in data collected by NASA’s Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer. LADEE was a robotic mission that orbited the Moon to gather detailed information about the structure and composition of the thin lunar atmosphere, and determine whether dust is lofted into the lunar sky.

“We traced most of these events to known meteoroid streams, but the really surprising part is that we also found evidence of four meteoroid streams that were previously undiscovered,” said Mehdi Benna of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Benna is the lead author of the study, published in Nature Geosciences.

The newly identified meteoroid streams, observed by LADEE, occurred on Jan. 9, April 2, April 5 and April 9, 2014.

There’s evidence that the Moon has water (H2O) and hydroxyl (OH), a more reactive relative of H2O. But debates continue about the origins of the water, whether it is widely distributed and how much might be present.

“The Moon doesn’t have significant amounts of H2O or OH in its atmosphere most of the time,” said Richard Elphic, the LADEE project scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley. “But when the Moon passed through one of these meteoroid streams, enough vapor was ejected for us to detect it. And then, when the event was over, the H2O or OH went away.”

Lunar scientists often use the term “water” to refer to both H2O and OH. Figuring out how much H2O and how much OH are present is something future Moon missions might address.

LADEE, which was built and managed by NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley, detected the vapor using its Neutral Mass Spectrometer, an instrument built by Goddard. The mission orbited the Moon from October 2013 to April 2014 and gathered detailed information about the structure and composition of the lunar atmosphere, or more correctly, the “exosphere” – a faint envelope of gases around the Moon.

To release water, the meteoroids had to penetrate at least 3 inches (8 centimeters) below the surface. Underneath this bone-dry top layer lies a thin transition layer, then a hydrated layer, where water molecules likely stick to bits of soil and rock, called regolith.

From the measurements of water in the exosphere, the researchers calculated that the hydrated layer has a water concentration of about 200 to 500 parts per million, or about 0.02 to 0.05 percent by weight. This concentration is much drier than the driest terrestrial soil, and is consistent with earlier studies. It is so dry that one would need to process more than a metric ton of regolith in order to collect 16 ounces of water.

Because the material on the lunar surface is fluffy, even a meteoroid that’s a fraction of an inch (5 millimeters) across can penetrate far enough to release a puff of vapor. With each impact, a small shock wave fans out and ejects water from the surrounding area.

When a stream of meteoroids rains down on the lunar surface, the liberated water will enter the exosphere and spread through it. About two-thirds of that vapor escapes into space, but about one-third lands back on the surface of the Moon.

(Photo by NASA Goddard/Mehdi Benna/Jay Friedlander)

These findings could help explain the deposits of ice in cold traps in the dark reaches of craters near the poles. Most of the known water on the Moon is located in cold traps, where temperatures are so low that water vapor and other volatiles that encounter the surface will remain stable for a very long time, perhaps up to several billion years. Meteoroid strikes can transport water both into and out of cold traps.

The team ruled out the possibility that all of the water detected came from the meteoroids themselves.

“We know that some of the water must be coming from the Moon, because the mass of water being released is greater than the water mass within the meteoroids coming in,” said the second author of the paper, Dana Hurley of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.

The analysis indicates that meteoroid impacts release water faster than it can be produced from reactions that occur when the solar wind hits the lunar surface.

“The water being lost is likely ancient, either dating back to the formation of the Moon or deposited early in its history,” said Benna.

NASA is leading a sustainable return to the Moon with commercial and international partners to expand human presence in space and bring back new knowledge and opportunities.

In his most recent podcast, Peter Schiff talked about recent Congressional hearings that featured Rep. Maxine Waters scolding bankers for creating the student debt crisis, ignoring the fact that the student loan program was nationalized a decade ago.

Peter described it as the political theater of the absurd.

Waters grilled the bank CEOs, asking them what they were going to do about all of the students they had saddled with all of this debt. Peter called it the “height of hypocrisy and denial.”

“Why did all of these banks make all of these student loans? Because the government guaranteed the loans. That is the only reason the loans were made. Basically, the government went to these banks and said, ‘Hey, we want you to make these loans to these kids and just to make sure that you make them, we will guarantee the debt.’”

And to make this even more absurd, banks don’t make student loans anymore. The government does it directly.

“Now, how can the government blame the private sector for the student loan debt when it’s the government that is actually lending the money to the students. I mean, if there was ever a problem that was more obviously caused by government, it’s student loans. Because the government either made the loans or guaranteed the loans, yet now the government is somehow is trying to blame the public sector for the problem and asking what they’re going to do about it? Whats’ the government going to do about it?”

Peter went on and highlighted some of the other absurdities in the hearing, saying the bankers were basically just there to “kiss ass” after getting bailed out by the government in 2008.

Peter also talked a little about inflation in this episode.

The government released its latest inflation numbers late last week. The overall CPI number came in at up 0.4%, slightly above the projection of a 0.3% rise. Year-over-year, the CPI is up 1.9%.

Peter said people should really be focusing on the rising price of oil because that is ultimately going to push that CPI number significantly higher. The price of oil continues to rise despite the fact that the dollar has not fallen.

Peter also pointed out that inflation is one of the reasons we see a rising level of inequality.

“One of the reasons that you have this rising inequality is because of the Federal Reserves efforts to pursue inflation. Even Mario Draghi said, ‘I need more inflation, that is our goal. We want inflation.’ Well, that’s been the Fed’s goal. They’re trying to reach their inflation target. Well, that is one of the reasons you’re seeing this wealth gap because inflation hurts the most the poor and the middle class. They don’t have financial assets that benefit from inflation. They earn wages and the value of those wages are destroyed by inflation. The cost of living is going up and the value of their savings, if they have any savings, is going down.”

Simply put, inflation is undermining the living standards of average people.

(Reuters) – Nike Inc’s long-time brand ambassador Tiger Woods gave investors another reason to cheer on Monday, after the world’s biggest name in golf won the Masters, pushing the company’s stock higher.

In his signature red shirt and black shoes with the Nike “swoosh” logo, the 43-year-old came back from a series of setbacks to claim his fifth Green Jacket on Sunday, ending an 11-year major title drought.

“A win for a high profile endorser is a clear win for the brand,” Nomura Instinet analyst Simeon Siegel said.

Nike celebrated his victory by posting an ad on its website titled “Tiger Woods: Same Dream,” which has received nearly 500,000 views on YouTube in less than a day.

President Donald Trump praised the win, tweeting: “Love people who are great under pressure. What a fantastic life comeback for a really great guy!”

Nike and Woods forged a partnership that dates back more than two decades through good times and bad publicity.

The brand already has a celebrated pool of endorsers, including tennis star Serena Williams, basketball phenom LeBron James, soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr, as well as golfers Francesco Molinari and Brooks Koepka.

While not transformational, Woods’ win should provide a boost to Nike’s golf apparel business, marketing consultancy firm Metaforce co-founder Allen Adamson said.

“His win is good for golf and its good for Nike,” he said.

Nike’s shares were up about 1 percent at $87 Monday morning.

The number of anti-religious attacks against Jews and Christians in France continues to rise, while attacks against Muslims are at their lowest for 9 years.

According to a group that studies hate crime attacks against Christians, February was the worst month for attacks on Christian churches since they began collecting data.

Other public Christian symbols have also been targeted, including summit crosses on mountaintops and public statues of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, which have been decapitated or destroyed.

A deliberate attack on the Saint-Sulpice church in Paris which caused nearly a million euros in damage was reported by the mainstream media as a ‘brief fire’ in which no one was hurt.

The number of anti-Semitic attacks (541) rose 74 per cent from 2017-2018 while anti-Muslim attacks numbered just 100, the lowest since 2010.

Meanwhile in the same period, there were 1063 anti-Christian attacks, a slight increase on the previous year.

According to Ellen Fantini, anti-Christian attacks are being minimized despite representing the largest share of hate crimes.

According to reports, the number of Jews fleeing France for their safety has dramatically increased since 2000.

In one Paris suburb alone – Seine-Saint-Denis – 40 per cent of the population is Muslim while 400,000 illegal immigrants also live there.

@WhiteHouse defends @RealDonaldTrump’s @Ilhan 9/11 tweet #MAGAFirstNews with @PeterBoykin REP. OMAR BLAMES TRUMP TWEET FOR DEATH THREATS: Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., says she’s received an influx of death threatssince President Trump tweeted a video on Driday that combined comments from the congresswoman — which critics said were dismissive of the Sept. 11 attacks — with footage from Ground Zero … “I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life—many directly referencing See More or replying to the President’s video,” Omar tweeted in a statement on Sunday night. Omar said that hate crimes around the world by right-wing extremists and whte nationalists are on the rise around the world and accused Trump of encouraging acts of hate. Omar’s comments came as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she had taken steps to ensure the freshman congresswoman’s safety and called on the president to take the tweet down. The White House defended Trump, saying the president had a duty to highlight Omar’s history of comments that others have found offensive, blamed Democrats for not holding the congresswoman accountable for her alleged anti-Semitic comments and that he wished no “ill will” upon the first-term lawmaker. (AP Photo/David J. Phillip) EYE OF THE TIGER: Tiger Woods is basking in the glory of his fifth — and perhaps most improbable and emotional — major title victory after winning the Masters on Sunday … Woods’ comeback has come full-circle. Only two years ago at Augusta National, Woods needed a nerve block just to hobble upstairs to the Champions Dinner, unsure he would ever play another round of golf. He had a fourth back surgery with hopes of simply playing with his two children. Now, at age 43, he is a Masters champion again, his first green jacket since 2005 and his first major since the 2008 U.S. Open. In addition to Woods’ fifth Masters championship and 15th major title (trailing only the great Jack Nicklaus in both categories), Sunday marked his 81st victory on the PGA Tour, one away from the career record held by Sam Snead. Perhaps most gratifying for Woods is that his two children, ages 10 and 11, got to see him win a championship live and not just relive his past glory on YouTube.

Puberty-blocking drugs, mastectomies, vaginal surgery and fake penises – all with zero chance of reversal – these are just some of the radical experimental methods being used on children. The madness must stop.

Imagine that you are the parent of a five-year-old boy who innocently informs you one day that he is a girl. Of course, the natural reaction would be to laugh, not phone up the nearest gender transitioning clinic. You have no idea how your little boy came to believe such a thing; possibly it was through something he heard at the daycare center, or maybe a program he saw on television. In any case, he insists that he ‘identifies’ as a female.

Eventually, possibly at the encouragement of your local school, you pay a visit to a physician. You hope this medical professional will be able to provide you and your child with some sound counseling to clear up his confusion. Prepare yourself to be disappointed. Your doctor will be forced, according to state and medical dictate, to follow the professional guidelines known as ‘affirmative care.’ It sounds nice and harmless, doesn’t it? In fact, the program could be best described as nothing short of diabolical.

The Medical Harms of Hormonal and Surgical Interventions for Gender Dysphoric Children

Following the ‘affirmative care’ approach, the doctor is required to follow the child’s lead, not vice-versa, as many people believe the doctor-patient relationship in this particular case would best work. In other words, if the child tells the doctor that he believes he is a girl, the doctor must comply with that ‘reality’ no matter what biology tells him or her to be the case. But this is just the beginning of the madness.

As the child’s parent, you will be encouraged to start referring to your son as your ‘daughter,’ and even permit him to choose a feminine name, as well as matching clothes. Teachers will be instructed to let your son use the girl’s bathroom while at school. The question of the social stigma attached to such a lifestyle change, complete with bullying, is rarely brought into the equation. Therapists will seldom discuss with the parents the social implications of such a mental and physical change; indeed, many will insist the changes are ‘reversible’ should the child one day have a change of heart. If only things were that easy.

Let’s pause for a moment and ask what should be the most obvious question, especially among medical professionals: ‘Is it not terribly naive to support the fleeting belief of a child, who still believes in Santa Claus, that he/she is the opposite sex? Isn’t there a very high possibility that the child is just confused and the thought will pass? Moreover, why did we never hear about such episodes just 10 years ago, yet today we are led to believe it is some sort of epidemic?’ Instead of working with the child and his newfound identity from such an obvious approach, in the majority of cases the child will be placed on the fast-track to gender transitioning. This is where the horror story begins.

One parent, ‘Elaine,’ a member of the advocacy group Kelsey Coalition whose daughter underwent “life-altering medical interventions,”came to understand that the transition is immensely harmful to the future health and well-being of her child.

“Once the teenage years begin, affirmative care means giving young people cross-sex hormones,” Elaine said during a panel discussion organized by the Heritage Foundation.

Girls as young as twelve are prescribed testosterone for lifetime usage, while boys are given estrogen. These are serious hormonal treatments that impact brain development, cardiovascular health and may increase the risk of cancer.”

This leads us to the operating table, where adolescents, lacking the mental maturity necessary to make such a huge life-altering choice, are exposed to the knife of irreversible surgical manipulation. Double mastectomies on girls, for example, as well as the fashioning of false penises derived from flesh borrowed from other parts of the body, are just some of the unprecedented procedures now available.

Elaine mentioned the high-profile story of one Jazz Jennings, who was diagnosed with ‘gender dysphoria’ and raised as a girl since the age of five. He was treated with hormones at the age of eleven, and at the age of 17, Jazz underwent surgery to remove his penis and create a simulated vagina out of his stomach lining.

“After surgery, Jazz’s wounds began separating and a blood blister began to form. An emergency surgery was performed. According to Jazz’s doctor, ‘As I was getting her on the bed, I heard something go ‘pop.’ When I looked, the whole thing has split open.’”

Elaine called the case of Jazz a “medical experiment on a child” that “has been playing out on television for the past 12 years.” It should be noted that a similar drama-packed scenario captivated the nation with the high-profile, made-for-television sexual transition of Caitlyn Jenner, born Bruce Jenner, the former Olympic gold medalist, who was quite possibly the greatest American athlete of all time.

The obvious question is ‘how many impressionable children, many experiencing their own bodily changes in the form of puberty, were persuaded to decide in favor of gender transitioning (something that a child could have only heard about from some external media or source, unless the parents engage in such odd discussion topics at the dinner table) after watching these celebrity persona?’ By now, few people would doubt the powerful influence that TV celebrities have over people, and especially adolescents. In fact, that is the entire notion behind the idea of a ‘positive role model.’ I am not sure Caitlin Jenner would qualify for such a part.

According to Michael Laidlaw, M.D., these children, who are experiencing what the medical community has dubbed ‘gender dysphoria,’ will move beyond their condition either naturally or with the assistance of a therapist. Meanwhile, according to Laidlaw, citing studies, many of the girls and boys who display symptoms have neuro-psychiatric conditions and autism.

“Social media and YouTube, things like that, binge-watching YouTube videos of transitioners seem to be playing a role…as well as contagion” in popularizing the idea among the masses.

The movement is predicated upon the modern liberal idea of ‘gender identity,’ which has been defined as a “person’s core internal sense of their own gender,” regardless as to what the biological facts of their sex prove.

Dr. Laidlaw presented perhaps the best case against parents and their children rushing to the conclusion that their children need puberty blockers, for example, or extreme doses of hormones, when he discussed what happens when a person is diagnosed with cancer.

“If a child or somebody you knew had cancer, would you want pathology results, would you want imaging to prove [the condition] before you give harmful chemotherapeutics,” he asked. Yet we are allowing children and adolescents to undergo irreversible chemical and surgical procedures without being able to see any evidence that shows the presence of ‘the opposite sex’ in the patient.

In other words, the medical community is monkey-wrenching with not only Mother Nature, but with the lives of children, with radical and irreversible experiments that have not been proven to promote the happiness and wellbeing of those on the receiving (or subtracting) end.

“We are giving very harmful therapies on the basis of no objective diagnosis,” Dr. Laidlaw said.

Laidlaw was forced to repeat what has been widely known for millennia.

“There are only two sexes,” he said.

“Sex is identified at birth, nobody assigns it. Doctors don’t arbitrarily assign this person to be a boy and this person to be a girl. We all know how to identify it.

“I would say ‘ask your grandmother who doesn’t read the scientific journals, and they will tell you exactly how to identify boys from girls.’”

The liberal think tank accused by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., of using its resources to smear him pushed back Sunday, saying the 2020 Democratic presidential contender was attempting to “muzzle” journalists with its independent news outfit, ThinkProgress.

“The Center for American Progress is a research institution focused on ideas and policy. ThinkProgress is part of CAP Action: It is editorially independent of both CAP and CAP Action and has been for years,” the Center for American Progress (CAP) said in a statement.

“We do not suggest, edit, approve or see their stories before publishing. And, in this particular instance, no one at CAP or CAP Action knew about this article or video’s existence before publication.”

Sanders earlier Sunday wrote a harshly-worded letter accusing CAP of “using its resources to smear” him and two of his Senate colleagues running in 2020 after ThinkProgress published a video suggesting Sanders stopped disparaging millionaires when he became one.

“I and other Democratic candidates are running campaigns based on principles and ideas and not engaging in mudslinging or personal attacks on each other,” Sanders wrote in the April 13 letter first obtained by The New York Times.

“Meanwhile, the Center for American Progress is using its resources to smear Senator Booker, Senator Warren, and myself, among others. This is hard the way to build unity, or to win the general election.”

Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell (Calif.) asserted that President Trump is Russia’s puppet despite Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s conclusive report finding no collusion whatsoever.

“He certainly acts on Russia’s behalf,” Swalwell said Sunday in a CNN interview. “And it’s a claim from someone who also worked as a prosecutor for seven years and had the responsibility of looking at evidence and putting it before a jury.”

He went on to lob accusations against Trump without presenting hard evidence, only talking points.

“He also acts like Russia’s leader,” Swalwell continued. “He attacks our free press. He acts in such a lawless way, and what we’re seeing most recently, telling a Customs and Border official that he would pardon him if he broke the law. And he puts his family in charge and in positions of power.”

In addition to dismissing Mueller’s report, Swalwell also pledged to be the “gun control” candidate in the 2020 field, and even threatened to nuke gun owners last year if they didn’t turn over their firearms to the federal government.

President Trump has stated that there are now investigations into the origins of the witch hunt known as the Russia investigation. Owen Shroyer explains that this has been a long time coming!

Tens of thousands of Facebook Oculus virtual reality (VR) controllers contain bizarre ‘hidden’ inscriptions warning that “Big Brother is Watching” and “The Masons Were Here” among other things ominous messages, according to Business Insider.

According to Nate Mitchell, cofounder of Facebook-owned VR organization Oculus, the messages were “easter eggs” which were only meant for prototypes.

Mitchell added “While I appreciate easter eggs, these were inappropriate and should have been removed.”

And while the affected units haven’t shipped yet, Facebook spokeswoman Joanna Peace told Business Insider that they will ultimately go out to consumers with the hidden messages inside.

Oculus Touch controllers

“To be clear, no devices have been sold with these messages yet, since Quest and Rift S have not yet shipped. That said, as mentioned in Nate’s tweet, the messages will be inside tens of thousands of controller pairs that will ship to consumers when Quest and Rift S ship,” wrote Facebook in an email – which kind of makes this look like a giant advertising stunt.

China has been exposed for trying to export electronics to the US that have the ability to spy for the Chinese government. Former NSA whistle blower William Binney joins Alex to discuss the future of 5G technology.

“We think it’s important to be transparent with our community and take responsibility when there’s an error,” added the company.

While most users of the Touch controller will never see the hidden messages, it’s an awkward misstep for Facebook, which has faced sustained criticism on privacy issues for more than a decade.

It comes as Facebook attempts to push virtual reality into the mainstream, and the company is also gearing up to launch its long-awaited Oculus Quest, an all-in-one virtual reality headset, in the coming months. –Business Insider
